How is getting one shot in early game in such a harsh game considered fun?
N0ma13 replied to Greccen's topic in Discussion
VS starts off pretty unforgiving but it's really simple to get situated. Remember to harvest leaves to get seeds, you can plant trees at your base and away from wolf spawns. Just don't plant so many you create a new forest. Play with your volume up and don't run everywhere you go, especially if the hunger mechanic is 'tedious'. Wolves tell you not to come any closer before they attack, just stop moving and turn around. This is where you run - away from them. Improvised armor is useless. If you can find some resin make the wooden lamellar to start. Just takes firewood to repair once it's made and it'll let you survive a wolf or two. Carry multiple spears, don't throw your last one.. Wolves aren't as good at climbing as you also, can lose them going over hills and jumping across pits. -

Dig down to rock, sample, dig down 3, sample, dig down 3 more, sample. (bring rope ladders). Cover the top and move 50 blocks to the next spot. -

hmm sad. if blue clay can be used to make it, it should be blue. Maybe they'll fix that
-
Will red/blue fireclay have different textures? IE: Can I haz blue oven?

As I sit here with it not even 1700 and it's pitch black outside with snow on the ground and the wife needs cold medicine, I realize we need doordash in VS.
-
I just wish there was a fishing pole.

Copper can exist in 'surface nodes' that are indicated by nuggets on the surface or in underground veins like other ores which are 'not' indicated by nuggets on the surface but can be found by prospecting. I can't give more advise than check the book for mother rock and just keep prospecting until it starts to show up. My current world gave me cassiterite before copper but I finally found that large rich vein so all is good in the world. Until it runs out cause things take too damn many ingots 40 ingots for a set of chain is ouch man.

Gifting the game to large creators would be prudent

Don't we want salt for pickled veggies? TBF I got VS because I saw it on youtube. Couldn't tell you who, don't care about youtuber's names etc. I watch videos that look interesting and almost never sub to any thing. Was watching minecraft vids and VS popped up, looked like a better version so I bought it. Great decision. Never give it away though.. If these people are so famous they can afford to buy it. -
I ended up just knifing them all and replanting. Lost around 70%, definitely did not get 70% back They're all growing already so I'm guessing it was related to planting 'dry'. Hasn't reached freezing yet, pretty warm climate. Hoping to get another two plots lined out and the whole 80 block farm put inside a greenhouse but that 'large' cassiterite vein needs found first. It's been located! But damned cave ins make mining slow.

This is where we need fire. Molotov that pit and save cook time.

V 1.19.8 * Water was taken from a pond, used the water from 'plot 1' for 'plot 2' so same in both spots. Only changes to default are 12 days, cave-ins, and enabled 'underground farming' because the sun doesn't stop working when the land is below sea-level by a few feet.. (No, the farm is not underground even by game mechanics) The two plots are right against eachother, I think 2 plants in the OG farm started growing but they were planted 'after' all the ones that are growing. Only thing I can think of is that I planted the seeds before the water had irrigated the blocks. Is there any way to retrieve the seeds at growth stage 1/x?
-
Have plots not growing and dunno why. First I planted along a river and they grew fine. First harvest last night. Made my first farm plot (20 around a water block) and every planted block is watered, 50% all nutrients, growth stage 1. Won't go up. Been 2 months now almost. Made a second plot right next to it to expand, thinking it's just season etc. Temp is good for all plants. Second plot is all growing just fine. Only the first set of 20 are broken and I can't see any differences with them. Replanting is hard cause I don't have a lot of seeds.

Rope ladders, huh? Didn't know that was a thing. You may have just made my decision to enable cave-ins less painful. -
Yeah I may do that, I haven't deleted the save so maybe
-
Doing it SP? I may check out the channel. I watch playthroughs now and then for build ideas!
-
I do want to focus on a big farm so maybe it won't be so bad. We'll see how this 12day goes and how much better med is than low. It definitely looks better lol

One thing I've noticed with the prospecting is that you can pinpoint the densest area by doing multiple searches. Each node shows on the map with color-coded densities and the ore tends to be seen over larger areas as far as I've seen in the limited time I've played. Once you've found the densest chunk, swap modes and start digging your shaft. I do the standard every third row for complete exposure and node search every 6th block -
30 for MP is what I was thinking but not so much for SP. I like a slow pace and can appreciate small gains (Idle/Incremental are my fav genre) but IDK if I want to spend 'that' much time farming

Your kitchen is amazing! I'd cook there even not in a game.

I mean it was enough to last half way into Jan I just expected my berries to stay up as I've seen others have through winter. My climate was not their climate It's ok if you don't understand, I enjoy playing the way I do as we all have our preferences. My main purpose was to discuss the day length and share an experience. I'm already enjoying the new world more. Copper in less than a month (took like 3 the first run!). House is already better, cellar already in place. I love this game so far! Some day I'll go hunting for the lore.
-
Hah! I thought I was prepared AF. Over a stack of flax grain, several pies, a few crocks. Gonna be fine.. I was not fine. Three pieces of fur clothes and still too cold to travel far enough to scavenge. Still made it Jan before deciding a new run with better understanding was called for. I am going to miss that beautiful stack of bronze ingots though Now I have medium soil and it's already better. Also, I set 12 day months. 9 seems too fast and oddly weird to me idk. I want to appreciate each season more. Anyone played on 30? That seems a bit much.

Anybody else finding the Temporal Storms too difficult?

Didn't notice the first one starting but saw that it ended so that's what happened. Have had many since but can't seem to figure out what 'actually' causes them. The only time my gear shows even a sliver is when I go deep into a mine. Took for darned ever to finally find a solid vein cause can only stay underground for a few minutes at a time and half that is spent travelling down/up the shaft.. Storms keep happening though. Even had a 'nightmare drifter' spawn inside my lit house during a 'light' storm.. That was fun. Only dropped a thread too. Cry. Really loving this game though. Solid in the 'tin bronze' age now and got my cellar stocked up for the winter. Next year food is going to be easymode. Even got a few beehives waiting for a swarm so yay alcohol! -

Hid inside a trader's wagon until it did finally pass. Got my pick, got some copper chunks, realized the hammer is not a 'suggestion'.. Panning for copper is so much better than running around looking for it btw. That second set of 20 took 2 game days compared to 2 real days looking for surface nodes. Now to decide what to spend the copper on. decisions decisions..
