  1. I don't know why this isn't already a thing. If it is, please let me know what I'm doing wrong, because I can't get them to orient with the axle vertically oriented.
  2. I won't be putting full 5-sails on all four gears. Just the front and back, and then 2 sails on the side rotors; that will avoid the clipping, like in the first image in the thread. I admit, it does look a little goofy, but I also think it looks kinda cool. I didn't realize until just now - despite hours in a test creative world just learning how windmill power works - that you could remove the large gear from the top if you don't run the vertical shaft down into the top of another large gear and instead do an elbow join with small gears into a large gear and not lose any torque. Had I realized that, I might've made a mono-propeller design with a much narrower top and used two or three of them. x_x Or maybe not, because I kind of like not having to find a nice place for several widmills around my little tower. Like this: Not this: Of course, you can't split the first way nicely four ways like the second, but in my survival world, I'm not doing it quite like that anyway because of where my cellar is. ...don't judge my mock-ups too harshly, they're just gross representations of the principles, not refined designs. XD
  3. Wow. Fascinating. I knew about the flower offset, but I thought it was entirely aesthetic.
  4. Here's what it ended up looking like in my survival world. I did a little bit of chiseling. 3 'sideways stairs' of each of the 4 orientations. ...it has no sails because I need about a bajillion more flax. @_@ I have 4 sets of sails and that's not enough to spin 4 querns in my cellar. Though I s'pose I could remove 2-3 of them to get at least some automation going... I'll probably take down the ladder on the north west side when I get all the sails in place
  5. Maybe. Temporal storm distortion doesn't have an optional setting (or does it? I never noticed it), and this would be basically the same, if you want to get rid of it, just sleep. Just like temporal storms. Though in general, I'm a fan of making everything optional in sandbox games. ^^
  6. So I have my Skeps set up like this: (facing south) The minimap would show something like this: Grey squares are skeps, purple squares are Blue Lupins. For some reason, there's a wild difference between the "nearby flower" readings for all similar skeps. For example, the edge of skeps on the right side (West) of the in-game screen shot display a "nearby flowers" of (from North to South) 91, 118, 128, and 101. As I understand it, Skeps are meant to read flowers as 'nearby' if they are within 7 blocks. There's no flowers to the North, South, or West, and the East-side fence is over 10 blocks from the West-most row of Skeps, so why is there this variance? I understand the inner two are going to have more flowers than the corners, but 91 != 101, and 118 != 128.
  7. I agree. It would be nice to have some bonuses for sleeping. I like reducing hunger rate. I also like the idea of healing as you sleep (at the very least it should be commensurate with the hours passing normally; I'm pretty sure it's not!). Furthermore, I'd like to see sleep duration not tied to bed type, and to be able to wake up at sunrise without having to watch the clock in the character screen - say if a rooster is within a certain number of blocks of your bed? Also being unable to sleep because I'm "not tired" is sometimes a bother. I also think it could be neat if there was visual distortion similar to temporal storms if you've been awake too long - say, very gradually getting worse from your 24th hour awake until the 48th hour awake (and remaining ever after until you sleep).
  8. You sure do like Trapdoors, don'tcha? XD (EDIT: I find they make really nice windows if you don't want to use glass) Friendly tip: you can press, I think it's F4 (just F4) to toggle the UI on and off. That'll hide the chat window that takes up so much of the screen when taking a series of screen shots. ^^
  9. They're there. I can see them. They're just hard to see due not to the colour of the granite, but to the excessive lighting. Try putting the lantern away and doing it in a shadow. EDIT: If you need help finding them; look at the face of the knapping surface which is facing the player rather than the sky; the one in shadow; the orange lines show up fine there.
  10. Plunk a tree tap into a tree, put a bucket under it, pine resin or maple syrup accumulate in the bucket over time.
  11. I hate having to post this as a question, but the wiki is down and I feel like I've looked everywhere in-game. So is there a way to open one's survival inventory (more importantly the 3x3 crafting grid) in creative mode, and if so, HOW THE CAKE DO I DO IT?! @_@;;
  12. So I recently did some chiseling blocks just to play around with the system in creative, and I can't even imagine trying to do this in survival. Do you think we'll ever get some way to automate the chiseling of blocks? EDIT: I really need to flesh out my thoughts more. Tend to assume people will just know what I mean, but how could they what with not being mind-readers and all. When I say "automate" I mean, like replication. You still have to chisel out a template, but you should have some way to spend resources to save the time and frustration (not to mention sheer tedium) of having to chisel out the same thing every time you want to place a copy of the block.
  13. Now imagine if we could place vertical windmills, so I could have a fifth one! =D
  14. I love both of these ideas.
  15. So I've finally made it to tinkering around with wind power. Prototyping additions to my base in creative, and I came up with this monstrosity. It looks so derpy, but it should work really well. ...yes. The chiseling took forever. @_@ Also, the open side was removed to display the innards. It could be made slimmer, but I think it looks a little too weird with just basically a pancake with fans sticking out of it. (EDIT: To be clear, as above, this was in creative. I didn't chisel each individual block, that would've really taken forever. I chiseled each kind of block once and use middle-mouse to place it multiple times) Bonus! Did you know that windmill blades don't have collision with one another? I hope this gets fixed eventually. <.<
  16. I don't mean to de-rail the thread, but I'd love some more information on this. <.< < /3 wolves
  17. This only exists for certain tools, and doesn't cover some things (e.g. using a smything hammer to work metal ingots, using a tool in the crafting interface).
  18. OMG, Thank you so much! I've wanted this since about the third time I died! Just didn't ever think to look for a mod to do it. x_x
  19. Yeah. That's probably a better idea. I dug out around them instead. I should probably redo it. Fence post probably looks pretty good. EDIT: Oh yeah, that looks SO much better.
  20. I understand that flowers and grass have their block offset to keep thinks from looking too mechanical and artificial, but it would be a really nice option to be able to either turn it off completely, or to place stuff without the offset. It's a real trick sometimes to be able to tell if you have a hole when you're replanting a large number of reeds. @_@
  21. I like Forget-Me-Nots for bee hives because they're so small and easy to see around, but also show up on the minimap (unlike Lillies of the Valley). There's just one problem. They seem to be approximately of equivalent rarity to incisors from the female gallus gallus domesticus. Is there some specific biome I should be looking in?
  22. So I happened to find a weird little bug. If I have a full inventory and clear-quartz in my main hand, I can repeatedly click on quartz bits and it will eventually give me clear quartz.
  23. Hrm. Might it have anything to do with having limited memory? Ever since I upgraded to Win10 at the start of the year, I have to run memory diagnostic to actually clean out my memory, and I sometimes forget to, so I'm sitting at, like 98% memory usage. x_x
  24. I wouldn't expect it would but... I dug up 39 blocks, ran around the world for a few days, came back and all the blocks I dug up were back. (and the nuggets that were on them and fell down were back on top). No, I didn't forget a reload, I have the blocks sitting in my bag. So what the fluff'n'stuff happened?!
  25. Yeah. I was actually looking at the "growth speed", not the nutrients themselves. The nutrients stay regardless of moisture. Growth speed, however, incorporates it. I probably should've deleted the thread 15 minutes after I posted it when I realized this and just asked my seed question in a new thread. x_x
