  1. I do think that there could be some tweaks to Vintage Story's combat, but the kind of vibe I get is like... Old survival horror games. As in, you're not at all prepared for this landscape and it's less slaying monsters on an epic quest and more.. clamoring and flailing for the chance of survival. I would probably like at least some animation tweaks to make it feel a bit better yeah, but nothing nearly as flashy as Hytale. The other combat tweak that I dream of is damage types and resistances. Like I feel like locusts would be more vulnerable to some kind of blunt weapon over a falx x3 I get the lore reason for having only falxes as the main weapons... But honestly? I think it is such a waste of the best smithing system I've seen in a game. I'd really like to see more threats that are easier to dispatch with different weaponry. And even unique weapon traits that depend on your time as a smith. Like uhh serrating blades or if you wanna make smithing a bit more of a challenge, forging a flammard/flammenschwert type sword. These could come with various downsides like yeah, your serrated blade is doing good damage, buuut it gets you less drops from wild animals because you're tearing at the meat. I also just really like personal touches in games. Like finding a preferred weapon that I think would fit my style (both vanity and gameplay wise. Also would make for nice display pieces!!) This was mainly fueled by how I want more stuff and more mechanics to smithing and general crafting x3 Like uhh.. I do find it a lil weird that we spend a bunch of time carburizing steel, refining the blister steel, then forging that steel into our desired shape... Only to just place it on a stick we found on the ground...
  2. This this thisss 100%!!!!. I still play Minecraft despite loving vintage story. I played Enshrouded (I also played Portal Knights but Enshrouded is practically a sequel), I play Valheim, even No Man's Sky is technically a voxel survival game x3 Abiotic Factor, Palworld and the Forest come to mind for Survival-ish/Base building as well. I do kinda tire of the whole "is this better minecraft?" debate that pops out a ton. Because this IS a genre that will ever evolve and have new entries to coexist with. I don't know why this is a reoccurrence with sandbox games compared to other genres... It's good to compare games to find what you like between em and maybe find similar games that way or avoid them if you don't like some things, but when it starts to distort into some kind of "loyalty" to a game... I think it becomes a little bit of an issue x3 If I want a minimalist "IKEA" type experience where I listen to Low Roar. I got Minecraft. If I wanna listen to old Irish folk songs while feeling like a medieval peasant I got VS right here. And Hytale will probably fit in the chill fantasy slot right next to Enshrouded where I'll be on and off between the two -w-
  3. Please help. I feel like everything takes too long to do and I just shut down. It's because I made it to steel. Even though I know there's resonance archives the path is sooo long to get there (As in literal distance) And I just don't wanna bother. Especially because my best gear is like.. copper lamellar. And only a single piece. It's not that I don't know how to get there. I can make outposts, stock them with grain and sealed crocks. Then just move between them like an old relay system. But it's just the effort and time for something that I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for. I decided to move my iron anvil and forge into my house's basement. alongside my clay oven. This way I'm spending less time running back and forth all over and can do two things at once to at least feel like i'm making more progress. But still.. It's getting kind of difficult. Will try though as I love this game x3
  4. Blehh it's been fairly difficult for me but one thing has brought me back.. Fruit trees. I know it sounds odd but I *really* wanna see an apple cutting grow. And I'm working on my first path into a bridge because I found out path blocks actually boost your speed! Anyways. It's been going well, I may ask a friend who has the game to create a new world too. My dream is to have a road that spans to the tropics. Sure, I can just use a translocator. but where is the flavor, the presentation, the flamboyance to that??? I want it to be spectacularrrr Anyways. here's hopin it sticks! Got jumpscared by the Halloween title screen (that pumpkin is scary)
  5. Sorry for the late response! Been on a few other games for the time... And thank you all! I had made just made a few tools with the steel. As I mentioned in another post, I am sitting on a bunch of iron that's already dug up. The issue is refining all of it. To which I only really have two issues now. Lack of charcoal or coal, and lack of fireclay. Surprisingly, shears solve my first problem. I can get about 7 pinecones from a bit of shearing on one tree, and 6 acorns from an oak tree. Better to have trees close to home (Also getting into growing some fruit trees) I can't believe I haven't used shears until now. absolute game changer. I will definitely make more furnaces. Since quartz and bauxite are way easy to get. Olivine is eh. My first cementation furnace is entirely tier 2, so I think I could find plenty of olivine if need be. though I'll probably start with t1, and upgrade to t2.
  6. I decided to add on to the title. I guess for if I ever wanna open up a post that ISNT related to my progress. Well I've done it! 16 steel all for me >:3 it wasn't too bad. Just feed it charcoal and let it carburize. I just kinda afked while playing FFXIV so it'd carburize overtime. Only 2 bricks broke afterwards since I started with tier 2. Now I'm just wondering what to do with it... I could make armor yeah. But at the same time, I haven't really *needed* armor if that makes sense. I've got a map to the resonance archives so when I go there, yeah I'll definitely want armor. But.. When Mining if I see a drifter I just bolt out of there. What I'll probably do next is make a greenhouse. It's almost autumn, and while I've got plenty of grain... I think it'd be good to have. Just to keep the growing cycles going, and be able to fund my expeditions.
  7. Update, it has hit the rams. One of the ewes passed :< though it was a wild one, the generation 1 ewe is still alive and I should have gen 2 sheep soon. The bear is now in a 3 deep pit. and I'll look into making a habitat for it.
  8. I was just killing a wild bighorn. And actually I do have a question about how they spawn. There have NEVER been Bighorns near my home. But after I nabbed a single ram, an ewe spawned nearby. And now rarely more will spawn. Is this some kind of prevention of getting like.. locked out of husbandry or something? Doesn't really matter since I'm gonna be on my second generation. More likely its just that they like to herd, and the area where they would spawn, I just never see, so they head down near the pens. Anyways. Back on to the point. I freaked out. Bear was spotted. It began running after my piggies, so I was terrified, and hid.. but then.. It fell. I had made a chicken pen for when I trapped some and... I know they can't be domesticated.. But I've wanted to start a zoo once I get more established. Will this fella stay here? Or is there anyway i can keep em here? I'm currently digging the pen out deeper, since while it seems it can't reach through the fence since it has attempted to, it hasn't hurt any of the animals. But I don't really wanna risk it. I'll relocate them eventually to a larger habitat since I think it'd be cute.
  9. An update for anyone who is wondering. I've found borax! It was by complete accident. The area I had found some readings had lead. So I figured "Get food, go on an expedition, at the very least, I'll have some lead if I ever need it" So I was mining it in this pretty large cave system. it had a drop off, but no easy way back up. Anyways, as I was mining, lots and lots of drifters came by. And I fell down. Only to see that right under that drop off. Was a white rock that didn't look like quartz! (I had had a run in where I thought I saw borax just for it to be quartz -_-) I got a stack and a single rock. Netting me 128 (Would be 130 but I haven't bothered to crush that single rock. Maybe use it for display) of the actual powder. Safe to say I wont be in too much need after that! side note while I was exploring I found a pretty beefy mountain. Anyways, getting to work on the helve hammer, i've already got the pieces in place except 4 more sails. Which won't be too bad as my flax is already growing. Though, I made the mistake of planting them early March, where it's still a bit chilly at night, so they'll be stunted.. Also, pulverizer is real close as well. The windmill is essentially just a dirt platform.. Eventually I'll revamp it much like I upgraded my house. I've got plenty of olivine, and bauxite is no trouble for me. Refractory bricks are near!!!!
  10. It's March 1st in my world again! After about 40 hours of game time. I spent my winter mostly afk. Mainly because I didn't have the best gear (I mean, most defense atm is a copper lamellar helmet) And, any further progress I wanted to make would require a windmill, and I didn't really farm flax until early autumn... Anyways! I survived winter* (*disclaimer. I died 4 times. However only 1 of those was hunger related. The others go as follows. Ram, Moose, Wolf. The time I died from hunger I first had my health lowered by a ram) I did do *some* stuff though. Mainly, exploring when I got the chance. I've found an area with a rock that supports Borax but no readings yet, so soon I can get to work on a cementation furnace. That same area has readings on Halite as well. Beyond that, I've found a commodities trader in which I can sell cracked vessels from the treasure hunter for profit. My plans now? First and foremost. Grain farming. Flax for the fibers and so I can get sails for rotational energy to power a helve hammer and pulverizer. (Well, not both at once. probably just a clutch between them) And then, Borax. since I need a flux. I have found limestone though, so my limewater needs are practically non-existant now, and I have been making leather since I've been really doing nothing. I never ran out of food, so I always had an option waiting at my home ^^ I do wanna cave since I have some Chromite readings, but I'll probably wait until I have candles and lanterns. And I'm not in that much need of chromite.. Since I've been using reed baskets STILL. So first I should get the normal leather backpacks before sturdy leather. I'm also gonna make like.. A rot box to put excess stuff in, since I feel like compost for fertilizer AND Terra Preta are gonna be pretty useful. And finally... A greenhouse. I wasn't too active during winter, mainly because everything I was kinda relying on wasn't active either. So, if I can keep my bees throughout most of winter, I can start claiming the land, and carving out my own place other than my house ^^ Im thinking roads with streetlights would be pretty. Oh! And more animal husbandry. My bighorns also gave me a lamb! So I'm now at gen 1 for them. I wanna give them a bigger space. And capture some chickens and boars in other pens. Anyways, this game has been fun, and I'll probably stick with it for a while, as the space it takes up on my PC is negligible compared to other modern games so I wont need to uninstall it anytime soon. I'm glad to be here!
  11. I feel like I'd definitely do this later after thinking about it. My experience as a new player to Vintage Story has definitely taught me this game rewards effort and planning ahead. Also found out that there's some meteor impact spots by the commodities fella! Not really motivation for the tunnel, but still definitely cool x3
  12. To be entirely honest I could just make 2 routes for the hell of it I really wanna make a city scape kinda place of my own. While I am in single player and it'd undoubtedly be very lonely, It'd still be cool. The King of Nothing at all x3
  13. So, gears, we love em right? Well, I live near a Treasure Hunter. "great!" I thought to myself after finding out that they'll lead me to some story event place. But, I've learned something deeper... Cracked Vessels. With my salt troubles, I was informed of the commodities trader! Cracked vessels from Treasure hunter = big money from the commodities trader But uh.. One issue. BIG MOUNTAIN IN THE WAY between the two traders! So.. an idea/project I've wanted to engage with since I got this game is.. Roads, routes, and supply lines/outposts. Stuff is far, and I am slow, so why not ease the journey? (ignore my crude MSpaint skills) The green and yellow lines show the planned routes. green is a relatively clean bit of land with minor changes in elevation besides like.. 2 sheer cliffs. and maybe 2-3 bumpy hills the yellow one, passes through a lower altitude, yet kinda maze like mountain structure (You know those like really thin, yet tall kinda hills? yeah that.) The dotted line, is just a straight shot. Another idea could be to make a tunnel that shoots off of the yellow line... Though I dunno what that'd mean for my temporal stability. Is there a specific Y level in which sanity dwindles? or is it just x amount of blocks below surface? I feel like first though, I should work on a helve hammer and windmill. With a pulverizer, I'll crush iron, then I can buy saltpeter and sulfur to make stone blasting bombs. Which could make tunnel boring a bit easier. Is it worth making a set path, that I dont have to jump around mountain faces to get over? Or should I just continue running through the wild? I dunno! But I might just do it for the fun of it!
  14. So, first winter, I've starved to death once (It was because I was fool, not because I lack food. I tried to conserve food, took damage from a ram, and died from the later hunger since I only had like 3 of the little bars.) Anyways! I have about 35 things of meat. 16 can get me four servings of hefty stew, but I can get 8 servings of normal stew if I just use 2 slots. I also have some turnips I could add. Should I try to compact everything into one meal, or have multiple smaller meals in my crocks?
  15. Thank you for the tip! I have a few gears saved up, but I haven't spent em since I figured I could just get most stuff the old fashioned way. I do think currently, the best course of action for meats and such would be to seal some meals up in a crock -w- I do have one question, during winter, will bees in skeps die? or just go dormant, because I really dont wanna travel back and wait where the natural hive was again...
