I ended up finding an easier solution, which was to wait for a quiet time on the master server list, then just favourite the server I was using. Now it skips the server load page unless I deliberately choose to search it, and just shows me a list of favourites, bypassing the loading timeout issue.

Can anyone walk me through doing this/tell me where to find this on a steam deck? I'm having the same problem of it giving up after ten seconds and giving the could not connect to master server message.
