Ruyeex
Question: Why there's still currently no red and brown clay in the game besides using mods? If there's a homo sapiens mode that you can't get red and brown shingles and bricks is just bad game design. Edited March 4 by Ruyeex
BronzeSpartan
The red and brown variants of clay are available in normal survival. They have to be bought at a traders wagon the building material trader to be exact. The reason for this is to encourage players to find and interact with the different traders for the building materials or items that you might want to use. Personally there are some items that I think should not be trader only, but I do like that most of the decorative blocks are trader only because it makes it a show of your dedication and time to making it with said blocks.
Streetwind
@BronzeSpartan The reason OP is asking is because there's a new game mode coming for 1.18 that doesn't have any traders (or anything else that implies the existence of other people). It's meant for people who want a stone age simulator and don't care about the lore and story. @Ruyeex You could always cook up a bunch of regular clay bricks, switch to creative mode, delete the bricks you made, and pull out some red and brown ones in their stead.

Why not make them latitude dependant? For example: Tropics have red clay Temperate blue Subarctic brown It would be another incentive for traveling in either direction and probably trade in multiplayer. The option for buying from traders "forein" type of clay should still be available but very expansive.

That doesn't cover the whole mistake since there's no way to know about it in terms of imbalance and applications Edited March 5 by Ruyeex

Yeetiee
,,In addition to sandy soils, gravel and clay soils can be found in tropical forests." https://sciencing.com/characteristics-of-tropical-soils-12003774.html Clay is also found up north in Scandinavia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay
