Is it possible to install 1.18 as a separate version of the game and keep 1.17 as is?

Is it possible to install 1.18 as a separate version of the game and keep 1.17 as is?  I'd like to keep my 200hr 1.17 world, but potentially start over in 1.18 because I am interested in the new features (looks like more fun!).  Thanks.

I just installed in 2 different locations and it works fine. My server is 1.17.11 so I have that version but also I'm toying with 1.18.0 single player to get a feel for it.
