Tentarro Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 Not sure how/when it starts happening, but I pretty much am stuck to having to start VS, playing it, and then force shutting my computer down by pressing the button on my PC because it makes me unable to even open the task manager. Any help would be appreciated.
Thorfinn Posted October 5, 2024 Report Posted October 5, 2024 Welcome to the forums, @Tentarro! So many new players! So for at least a while, you can press ESC and get the menu? Or does that never happen? What system are you playing on? Any mods?
Thorfinn Posted October 5, 2024 Report Posted October 5, 2024 Oh, you know where I saw something like that? A machine whose video card couldn't handle the default view distance. If you increase the distance beyond its capabilities, that will definitely at least seem to lock up. I think it's probably just disc swapping, but that can seem like a freeze.
Nicksmoe Posted May 20, 2025 Report Posted May 20, 2025 (edited) A little late, but I’m also having a similar problem where my game will still somewhat respond (but seems partially desynced from the server). When it eventually does disconnect me or freeze, I’m able to open the task manager and/or start menu, but they both get stuck on the screen and don’t function (even to shut down). Other apps also don’t work well during this and will usually only respond to one or two actions before also freezing, and only a full power reset seems to get things running again. I have a 5900X and a 3080 Ti, and all my settings are on the “high” defaults and usually run fine there (other than this scenario). The server I play on does have >70 mods, so that could definitely be a part of it. However, I’ve been playing here for a while and only started having issues the last few days. WiggleStick Posted May 20, 2025 Report Posted May 20, 2025 (edited) Check your #1 Core load in task manager, performance, I had to turn on all my cores in windows. that got it off 100%. It still uses #1 core More than the others, but it shares more workload. I then limited my FPS to 70 and that lowered the #1 core to about 80%. FPS is still mostly 55-60 which is very smooth. That way I could keep my view distance to 1024 and settings to max Before that I would occasionally hardlock where I couldn't bring up task manager until I figured out After control alt. delete followed by Alt TAB to show the Task manager and VS Black screen.to chose from. I could only Hit the X and close VS. then The task manage would come up and I could shut down VS in the task manager. No error log or anything to show whats wrong. I figured it was a rare problem But its no longer an issue. Edited May 20, 2025 by WiggleStick
