If there will ever be villages in the future update, I suggest implementing a village market where you can buy domesticated animals.

 

I imagine it as some special space in the village where the villagers would gather every week and sell their products. These products would be relatively different from those sold by the wantering merchant. Different types of food, building materials, but also domestic animals could be found there. For aesthetics, it would be good if the animals were in the fenced area of the market.

That could be modded in 1.20.  Rumor has it that one of the features is a populated settlement.
