Zamfir Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 In a new world, I set the respawn radius to zero and went ahead to build a shack to make sure that I don't respawn to a bear, a pack of wolves, or other stuff as I frustratingly often do. Then I went on my way to make a base and all a bit further. Two irl days later, I die only to respawn 100 blocks away, on top of the mountain with no way down. Then I check only to find out that for some ungodly reason the word spawn changed? The 00 coordinate was right there, right where I built that shack. So why, in god's name, did it change? Is it a bug? A feature? The game was singleplayer, so there was no one to change the worldspawn, and I sure didn't do it.
Thorfinn Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 Welcome to the forums, @Zamfir. Yes, many of the options are only guidelines if the game thinks the player is a pan flute musician. Didn't know that happened. Not that I don't die, I just play permadeath. There's probably a command to tell your world how to treat it, but until then you can probably just teleport the few times you need to. Something like /tp 0 0 0

That's the thing, you see? The coordinates changed, At the start of the game X:0 Z:0 were in one spot, two days later they were 100 blocks away, and the original location became X:-38 Z:100, which is why I was completely and utterly confused. Coordinates changing is not something you expect in real life (even though it is a geological possibility) let alone in a video game. What I'm searching to know is if this is a feature and how it works, so I can prepare for the next time I respawn on the tip of a mountain with no safe way down and no usable resources to make such a trail. Or even better, to avoid such an outcome altogether.
Thorfinn Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 Don't know. I just created a new world with the zero spawn radius and died 3 different times, drowning, falling and poison mushroom. (I looked for bears and wolves for probably 10 minutes and found none.) But every time, I respawned in the same location. Moving 100 blocks is weird. I thought the default was 50 or 5000, depending on what mode you were playing. Are you running mods? What version of the game engine are you using?
Solution Grummsh Posted December 21, 2024 Solution Report Posted December 21, 2024 Hmmm and i thought about one more thing - what about the shack you build? Maybe you covered the block you were suppose to spawn on with a wall of the shack so when you died and the game couldnt really put you there it reset the spawn point? Just thinking out loud here actually as i have no idea how it actually works coding wise

Not running any mods, playing the 1.19.8 version. 18 minutes ago, Grummsh said: Hmmm and i thought about one more thing - what about the shack you build? Just thinking out loud here actually as i have no idea how it actually works coding wise It was the first thing I thought about and checked, but there's 3-4 blocks distance between the spot and the walls. Doubt it could have been that. Unless it's the roof? I did a little digging so the roof might be a bit low. Will try to reproduce on another world, and see if that's the problem. 1
Zamfir Posted December 21, 2024 Author Report Posted December 21, 2024 Update: It was the roof. So I tested it out and basically, if the spawn is obstructed and you respawn, the game won't care and will spawn you inside of walls, at least at first. Upon leaving and re-entering a world tho, the spawn location will be changed if it is obstructed. What happened is the roof of the shack I built was in the way, but since it was only one block thick at first I respawned there without noticing the obstruction. Upon leaving and re-entering the world one day later, the game probably detected the obstruction and changed the world's spawn. And that new location just happened to be on top of a glacier. 1
