Pb_ Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) I decided on my second serious world i wanted to do a tropical start since i miss being in Southeast Asia and i have some thoughts on what i feel is missing: Food: I found myself starving as i had to rely on meat and bamboo shoots which is doable but very tedious due to an overall lack of forageables in most tropical regions. I have a few Suggestions that would provide a different feel to an otherwise neglected feeling region: Sago Palm: Its a small tree that doesn't provide you wood but instead provides food in the form of sago. it would provide a decent food source until you can get farming. Farming Sago might also be a unique way to have a backup for food as IRL it is suited for land otherwise unsuited for agriculture, so an orchard of Sago palms could simply be grown on untilled dirt. Can also consider palm heart if palm trees are implemented. Kudzu: Yes, that kudzu. Kudzu IRL is pretty much totally edible with its leaves being a lot like spinach and roots being almost turnip like. This offers a couple options in implementation as i'm not sure if one plant giving two edible products is OP. Fiddlehead fern: Found around fern trees, can provide another option for a tropical start. I dont have much to say about this one, tropical start is difficult with a lack of widespread berry bushes. Salt: Since preserving food in a cellar in the tropical region is less effective, i would like to see a method of gathering salt when you have access to the sea. This can open up a different play style for the region. A note on Bamboo: Bamboo is among the most versatile and easiest materials in the game but is also something that feels neglected. While bamboo can be worked with pretty much only using a knife, it still takes a while for the player to gather sufficient quantities to build a house with it. My suggestion is simple, allow usage of bamboo pretty much the same as any other wood, however it cannot be used to do anything like seal cellars. This doesn't stop people from using the saw, it just provides a unique benefit to the tropical region. (Also please give bamboo shoots a nutritional use and ability to cook it into meals) Edited December 22, 2024 by Pb_ accidentally pressed enter.
