Scientific scotsman Posted January 5, 2025 Report Posted January 5, 2025 just the title, had an idea on a multiplayer session, plus it would make sense for the world, instead of horses we got elk (to be clear, not a complaint), plus foxes IRL are extremely vocal, they already have plenty of different noises to choose from that can be put in game as status indicators wheras even minecraft recognised that dogs can only really bark and howl so they made the erectness of the tail the health indicator, foxes can and will make it easy to tell how hurt they are, if their hungry e.t.c. and because we bred the problem solving skills out of dogs foxes could also just do more stuff that would be useful in game as a companion and taming them could also just be useful as they would begin ignoring your chickens, plus just search foxes on YouTube and tell me you don't want one I dare you, thoughts? 3
Deaderpan Posted January 5, 2025 Report Posted January 5, 2025 irl dogs do way more than bark and howl. minecraft only uses the tale as an indicator and have limited sound because when dogs where added minecraft used very basic animations and sound design (and the devs refuse to update it for imo stupid reasons). you only have to look at the current wolves in game (basically dogs already) to see that they have plenty of animations and vocalisation and behaviours already and thats before 1.20 updates them. yes i agree that more than just dogs should be tameable, but your reasoning doesn't make sense to why dogs wouldnt work because to put it simply, minecraft dogs are a very bad representation for an animal in both real life and what VS track record for animal behaviour is 1

I'll preface with stating that I would like tame foxes in addition to dogs. But the reason I don't want foxes instead of dogs is that, aside from lack of choice, foxes make really irritating screaming noises, and in reality their pee smells horrendous...and the smell doesn't simply wash out of your carpet. Dogs are better for defense and other utility functions(like carrying stuff), since wolf-based dogs are bigger. A fox though could easily just be a cute little companion. 1
JAGIELSKI Posted January 6, 2025 Report Posted January 6, 2025 I think any animal that makes sense to be tamed/had as a pet IRL should be able to be had as a pet in the game (provided relevant species is in the game), utility be damned. 1

Agreed, I want a pet bunny just to have a pet bunny. On 1/5/2025 at 9:58 AM, LadyWYT said: I'll preface with stating that I would like tame foxes in addition to dogs. Foxes do have a job they could do as well with protecting farm fields from small critters that might eat crops. Some players already use them for this by catching a fox in the farmland.
