Vida Posted January 25, 2025 Report Posted January 25, 2025 so I noticed that certain combinations of sand and clay don't seem to be able to form any kind of daub, in my case I noticed that combining red clay and granite sand doesn't seem to be able to craft daub and sure enough, checking the granite sand help page it seems that it can only form daub with blue clay or fire clay is this an intentional feature or an oversight because in my current location on this world, granite sand and red clay are everywhere and them not having a daub crafting recipe feels like an oversight.

I believe it's an intentional feature, at least for now. The clay types were changed for a couple of the recipes; I think it was the lighter colors that need blue/fire clay instead of red, presumably because red clay would realistically produce darker colors.
willdigforfood Posted January 25, 2025 Report Posted January 25, 2025 Yeah, that's just how it works. Specific colors of daub are made by combining specific types of sand and clay (usually with 1-2 options for each type) or by dying it. This means that some combinations just don't come together into anything meaningful. I was in the same boat: nothing but red clay and granite. Fortunately, granite can be used to make a quern so I just made fire clay manually using calcined flint: the conversion rate is generous enough that just grinding the flint manually is the most laborious part of the process.
Vida Posted January 26, 2025 Author Report Posted January 26, 2025 It seems silly since there is a daub recipe that combines light gray sand and red clay, the weathered brown daub can accept phylite sand and red clay, phylite sand looks very similar to granite and wattle and daub construction is historically the kind of thing you can do from whatever random materials you have in the immediate vicinity. It's not actually a big deal, I ended up just running about 500 blocks south and collecting some claystone sand and making some golden brown daub, just seems like a bit of a silly thing. 1
Myszkou Posted February 7, 2025 Report Posted February 7, 2025 and here i thought my main struggle is gonna be finding enough blue clay for my roof in early game, but now ill need extra for the actual walls would change to a different type of daub, but what am i gonna do with a trunk full of limestone sand
LapisSquirrel Posted September 24, 2025 Report Posted September 24, 2025 Limestone sand with red clay makes golden dauber if that's what your going for
