Voldemort Posted February 3, 2025 Report Posted February 3, 2025 Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone knows whether bioms affects the soil and crops that grow on it. I remember when I did terraforming a long time ago, my soil turned into dirt. Does anyone have insights on this, how it works and if that affect corps and other life on it.
Michael Gates Posted February 3, 2025 Report Posted February 3, 2025 I've made farms and gardens in desert/barrens areas more than once and it works fine. Could this possibly be a mod?

Could this possibly be a mod? No, we are in vanilla – for example, soil turning into dirt. Also, planted items have a debuff, like 75%. like this Edited February 3, 2025 by Adnyeus
gilt-kutabe Posted February 3, 2025 Report Posted February 3, 2025 If the temperature is too warm/cold for the crops, they can receive a debuff starting at 75% (shown in red at the bottom of the crop info box). Different soil qualities grow crops at different rates, and the nutrients deplete over time, which could also account for the debuff (also in the crop info box). Exactly what kind of dirt is the soil turning into (what is the block called when you pick it up or hover over it)? I don’t think it’s possible for soil to change at all (even in fertility quality), except from direct interaction from the player, like tilling or crafting. What are we looking for in the screenshots? To me, they all look perfectly normal.

After using WorldEdit's replace/terraform, it will overtime turn grass blocks into empty dirt, and they will never revert to green.
