Diodoron Posted February 13, 2025 Report Posted February 13, 2025 Hello, I need some advice. I have been playing VS in singleplayer for some time. Now I started my first run together with my boyfriend via LAN. It worked ok, but has some drawbacks, e.g. him disconnecting quite often. Since we both enjoyed it alot so far we think about switching to a paid server. I have no experience with a multiplayer server though. Do you have any recommendations which one to pick or which criteria are important? The next big question is: can I transfer the singleplayer world and our characters to the multiplayer server? We would not want to loose the progress, if possible. And is there a noob friendly manual how to do it? Thank you very much
Thorfinn Posted February 13, 2025 Report Posted February 13, 2025 The official server does not at present (or at least when I last checked) take uploaded worlds, nor does it allow mods. So, yeah, you will need some 3rd party server. Unless maybe one of you has an old i5 sitting around you don't know what to do with. On board video for a server is fine. Probably $100 between an SSD and RAM and you are good to go.
Diodoron Posted February 13, 2025 Author Report Posted February 13, 2025 I think renting a server is the best option then. From what I have read it should be possible to use the singleplayer data for the server. I hope that won't be too difficult.
Dilan Rona Posted February 13, 2025 Report Posted February 13, 2025 I started a new world as a single player, and moved that world to the server that I used (I was specific about the seed, and world settings that I needed from the get go). All I had to do was rename the save file to default (seeing the default name for the server save is default.vcdbs). So yes, you can start a world on a single player world, and move it to the server as a server save.
