Offical links for old (pre 1.9) versions of the game?

The client area has links all the way to 1.9.14, and 1.0.2 "classic" mode, is there any way to access even older versions of the game? Specifically 1.4 to 1.8, I'm interested in trying a timelocked progression savegame, where i start in an old survival-ready version, and increment major game versions releases after completing major personal goals. It probably sounds like a strange idea but i've done it with success in MC from alpha 1.2.6, so i'm interested in trying something similar in this game too ^^

I don't have an instant answer for you, but I do wanna help with your goal in other ways. I used to do that a lot with that other blocky game as well, it was a fun time planning things around what updates give me :) I haven't thought of doing it with Vintage Story yet, but I can give you some pointers (that you may already know about).

- That other game is known for making updates as friendly to older worlds as possible, however I don't feel that things were as smooth in Vintage Story. Firstly, if you have a VS world that is older than 1.18, you'll have to manually generate the Chapter 1 story yourself; that will never spawn. 1.20's Chapter 2 story locations will generate IF those chunks haven't been generated yet, but there are commands that will let you regenerate those locations in better places.

- Pit Kilns were added in 1.14, before that you'd just toss your pottery in the firepit with firewood. So make sure to get all your pottery needs done before 1.14 :P

- Older games had a 7x7x7 room limit for everything. Sometime between 1.15 and 1.18 they added the 14x14x14 limit to regular rooms and greenhouses.

- 1.15 was the update that made updating the game easier, before that you had to manually install the next update. I don't think this'll be relevant with you, as you'll still have to manually go through each update regardless.

- Either 1.17 or 1.18 changed the music disks to cylinders, and echo chambers to resonators. The older music disks can sit on mold racks, and they will stay on the mold racks when you update until you manually remove them yourself. And yes, seeing tuning cylinders on a mold rack DOES look silly, I wish I had a photo to share.

- Nails and Strips were added in 1.19 (Unless it was 1.18), before that wooden things just didn't need them.

- Fireclay was changed (very recently) in 1.20 to no longer spawn on the surface, but if you're starting waayyy back on early versions then I think you'll have plenty of generated clay for you to use by the time you get to 1.20

I can't remember too much before that, I've slept since those changes :P  Anyways, good luck in your time warp adventures ❤️ Let us know how easy it is to switch between versions without a dedicated launcher like that other game has, I'm curious for myself.

Actually I have something 👀

Vintage Story 1.9.14 is stored at (https://cdn.vintagestory.at/gamefiles/stable/vs_install_1.9.14.exe). So far, I've been able to modify that link to go as far back as 1.9.0, but 1.8.0 came up with nothing. Same with 1.4.0, 1.5.0, 1.6.0, and 1.7.0

EDIT: That above link can be modified to work from 1.9.0 to 1.18.7. With the Net7 update in 1.18.8, it's been changed to (https://cdn.vintagestory.at/gamefiles/stable/vs_install_win-x64_1.18.8.exe).

Thank you! ^_^ i'll definitely be reading changelogs if i do start something like this but this is a good baseline of info to start with! knowing i can generate story content is very good. As for the download links - I've been poking around too based on what you found, and found some old install scripts, and discord posts that indicate sometime between 1.8 and 1.9, they swapped to the "cdn.vintagestory" URL, with 1.8 and before using "accounts.vintagestory". it seems the latter is still used as a mirror link, but i still came across the problem of not being able to find anything older than 1.9 (besides 1.8.6 not 404ing, but instead downloads an empty file, which is worse than a 404  :D), so i think the files definitely aren't officially hosted anymore.

I'm not too hopeful, but if anyone has any versions 1.8 and older, for windows or linux, I'm certainly interested in having them!

Hello new to the game about closing in on 40 hours in,... when i first got the  game i was looking around and noticed in the mod manager the vanilla game uses mods for the game like items the eco system ect ect, meaning the game depends on the mods to function any if at all... my guess  would be you could try and contact one of the dev team members, and ask one of  them if they have a earlier version of thos 3 mods. Drop them into the mod folder and just disable to current ones... that may work?

Not exactly.  The base mods the devs include in the game are only used for modifying the vanilla play styles of Wilderness Survival, Exploration and what not.  There's still differences in the base game engine such as the @Never Jhonsen mentioned in their post.
