ToothedMammal Posted March 18, 2025 Report Posted March 18, 2025 I think it would be fun if there was a "freeform" option when choosing what clay thing you want to sculpt, and then you could use the clay forming tools to make little sculptures of whatever you want. The resulting creation would have no use, but itd be a fun alternative to chiseling to make little decorations. The clay sculpt can be put in the crafting grid to "recycle" it back into clay, or it can be fired to make it a permanent object. Being able to paint the sculpt with dyes would be fun too but idk how easy that would be to implement 3
PineReseen Posted March 19, 2025 Report Posted March 19, 2025 This seems like a very good idea, especially for early-game decor, or those who want something else than chiseling (Though, I have no experience actually doing that, so I can't really speak about it too much). Imagine making figurines to put in your house! Also, if straight-up colouring with dyes for each individual voxel is way out of scope from a programming perspective, dyeing them whole so they aren't that default colour would probably do as well. Overall, this is an idea I definitely like!
LadyWYT Posted March 19, 2025 Report Posted March 19, 2025 I think there used to be some sort of clay block that you could craft and then fire, though it ended up being removed in 1.20 if I'm not mistaken. It'd probably be easier to just re-implement that, and then chisel the block down to whatever shape you wish. End result is pretty much the same, and the fired clay blocks could also be used as materials for other chiselwork.
