Salenos Posted April 11, 2025 Report Posted April 11, 2025 Hello, In survival games similar to Vintage Story, player storage often ends up looking like in the attached picture: Chests stacked on top of each other have always looked a bit odd in my opinion, and in a game like Vintage Story, which is generally realistic, it stands out even more. I think adding large storage drawers could improve the look of player storage. I'm thinking of something similar to the drawers shown in the second picture of some Minecraft mod:
LadyWYT Posted April 11, 2025 Report Posted April 11, 2025 Welcome to the forums! Have you checked out the crates in Vintage Story? They can be stacked(to do this, you'll need to place them against a wall), and can hold several stacks of whichever specific item you place in them. They also come in different colors, and have different capacities depending on materials used to make them. You can also label them with parchment, and choose between an open crate or closed crate when it comes to appearance. Not that I think some functional furniture besides chests wouldn't be a good addition...but we essentially already have this particular concept implemented with crates.
Never Jhonsen Posted April 11, 2025 Report Posted April 11, 2025 As a hoarder, I am ALWAYS looking for more storage options. And "Storage Drawers" is a wonderful mod; I'm always making the 4-drawer 1/2 block modules 7 hours ago, Salenos said: Chests stacked on top of each other have always looked a bit odd in my opinion You are so correct on this, let me introduce you to the power of Support Beams A few slabs on top, and an assortment of support beams on the corners, and they look a lot more grounded in place. Now, it still is odd to have trunks that open into the trunk above it, but at least they don't look out of place. And, the fun doesn't stop there I stole this idea from a very important figure in Chapter 2 of this game. It's SUCH a massive visual improvement, and I wish I thought of it eariler 5
Salenos Posted April 12, 2025 Author Report Posted April 12, 2025 LadyWYT, thank you for your reply. Yes, I use crates and I see the similarity to what I'm suggesting, but crates can store only one type of item, which makes them useful only when storing large quantities of a single material. The drawers that I would like to see in the game would essentially be a reskin of the chests and trunks.
lying_dice Posted June 13, 2025 Report Posted June 13, 2025 if you're willing to be less space efficient one solution I have found is to place top slabs above a layer of chests and then place chests on those top slabs. that way all of the chests are grounded, and they look like they have some space to open.
