Is there any chance we can get a class change item/totem/altar or whatever? I started off as a commoner, but regret my decision because apparently bows can only be crafted by the bowyer/archer class, and now after several hours of gameplay and getting to the bronze age, I'm stuck. I really don't want to start completely over, just because I didn't know certian essential for play items *cough* BOWS! *cough* were class-locked... I get that high end bows should probably be gated, but geez, gimme something that flings a pointy stick at least...

It sure would be nice to have some way to change classes, even if the item/altar could only be used once every 7, 14, or 30 in-game days or so. Seems that would be an acceptable way to prevent abuse, without forcing people to basically restart a new world from square 1.

/player yourname allowcharselonce

That should bring up the character creation menu and allow you to change both appearance and class. There seems to be a method planned to alter your appearance in game without the use of commands, but I'm not sure about a method to change class. Class doesn't seem like something you should just be able to change organically on a whim.

/worldConfig classExclusiveRecipes false

Running this command will disable the class requirement for crafting certain items(like certain bows), so there's no need to change your class. The only thing that's specifically depending on your class(outside of some NPC dialogue) is the Clockmaker's locust hacking; you need to actually be a Clockmaker for the tuning spear to hack a locust.

Or to learn the crafting bowyer/tailor/etc skills through a loot drop.

Traders will sell any class recurve bows and sewing kits. Any class can use bows, as well as repair clothing.
Less things than you think are locked behind classes. 😄

Also, any class can craft simple bows and longbows. Any class can also repair clothes using linen sheets instead of sewing kits, though it's a bit less efficient.
