skemper Posted April 18, 2025 Report Posted April 18, 2025 (edited) I got the game about a week ago and have had no issues. This morning, I started it up and got a black screen and the game crashed with no crash report. Although a quick pop up said something about the game trying to run on my NVIDIA card. It was not an error message. It closed out before I could get a screenshot. I have reinstalled about 5 times, restarted PC, and updated drivers. Any advice? Thanks!!! If updating the driver didn't resolve this issue, there might be more at play, though. Is this happening with any other game? If it does, there could be an underlying hardware issue. A defect PSU for example. That'll probably be not the case, considering only the game crashes, not the whole PC. Are you using two or more monitors? You didn't get any crash reports, but that doesn't meant that no logs were created. See if client-main.log (%AppData%\VintagestoryData\Logs) contains any further information. You could also try if using https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/Download-Display-Driver-Uninstaller-DDU-18110 to completely reset graphics drivers and reinstalling them fresh fixes your problem. Technically drivers too new can cause issues too, but it's rather doubtful. Edited April 18, 2025 by Brady_The
skemper Posted April 18, 2025 Author Report Posted April 18, 2025 All other games work fine. I am using 2 monitors although havent had this issue since i bought the game a few days ago. I got it to work earlier via a security/firewall file. Ill see if I can find it again and get back with you. Hopefully I can find a permanent solution

My temporary solution is as follows (Im not a tech guy so bare with me) I right clicked Vintage story and clicked "show more options" and then "troubleshoot compatibility" 1. I typed "Run the windows program compatibility troubleshooter 2. Troubleshooted Vintage Story 3. Clicked that the program wasnt displaying correctly 4. Allowed permissions and game started right up. I have no clue what issue this indicates so if you have any advice so i dont have to do this everytime, I would appreciate it

I've been seeing more of this, though. Driver software is being increasingly intolerant of anything beyond end of support. GOG is going over their whole catalog making the older games less vulnerable to end of lifecycle. Probably won't work in the long run but it's allowed me to get some more time with "oldies" like NeverWinter Nights...
