Crates have missing textures when labelled?

On a server I've been playing on, every crate that has a label has the [?] missing texture instead. other players can see it fine, but i can't. Ive re-downloaded the server mods (though that shouldnt be an issue here as nothing in this screenshot is modded--no materials or anything like that in the crates) and tried repairing my install by updating my version i'm playing to the same version (1.21.10).

 

Any advice?

No advice here, but what's 1.21 like?  I'm stuck on 1.20 and thought it would be a few months before 1.21 started being released.
