so I've got tin bronze chain (havent taken the time to upgrade it because I am about to get iron) and every temporal storm I hide in a like 2x2x2/1x1x2 room (larger one is so I can do something im working on while I wait) because my only answer to the higer tier monsters is to perish. now after the storm has passed I get a little greedy and try to kill a few of the remnants to get gears or something.

The only issue is I'll be kiting a high tier drifter and a nightmare shiver will come in at mach 10 and murder me (I have creature strength at 150% because I hate myself) I don't know if the higher tiers are faster or if I am just spoiled because I can outrun a surface shiver as an unarmored clock maker. but even if I see it coming she just zooms and kills me.

I am in pain, thankfully (and also sadly (again I hate myself)), the moster that kills you seems to be subject to divine retribution and is erased from existence after killing you (except this one sawblade locust thing I encountered one time... well more like seven trying to get my stuff back)

This isn't me complaining to have it changed though I like that the monsters and temporal storms are almost literally a waking nightmare. I just wanted to share my pain.

I love the shivers, I think they are one of the coolest designs for a hostile creature. Their speed, the way they wobble when they walk, the different mouths (I love what I call the Four jaw variant), the scratching noises they make when they try to get at you through a wall. Wonderful creatures, those shivers.

On that same note, I hope I never see a shiver spawn in my world.

Add some humorous flair to that story and post it in the Humorous Stories thread.  shameless plug

Totally agree!  I HATE seeing them, but they are designed well.  If the bowtorn spawning could be homogenized with the other mobs, the three make a terrifying combined arms maelstrom to deal with in a storm.  I know cower in fear at storms when I would go hunting double headed drifters, nekkid with flint spears at the first storm in previous versions.  I play hunter and have steel chain armor and even with full health am very cautious about taking on a storm because of those high level shivers and bowtorns.  I wonder if blackguard would fair better in storms.   Hmmm...

Current Blackguard with full BG armor/shield/shortsword here that still has problems in high level storms. While everything up to corrupt drifters dies in about five hits and is alright to manage, nightmare tier is still a different number altogether. The five points of health more is just one more unblocked hit from a nightmare drifter with my equipment, and the damage barely gets me even. It IS easier than as a commoner, however.

Hunter is a bit worse for melee.  And the wibbly wobbly timey wimey environment of temporal storms really nerfs the ranged benefit of the hunter class.  While steel chain provides a good level of protection for hunters while not sacrificing much of the ranged benefits, I think I might go back to blackguard and steel plate armor for temporal storm drifter hunting.

Thank you for the input on BG in the shiver/bowtorn age.

Sorry, forgot to mention those two specifically.

Bowtorns are not that much of a problem with my setup...in ranged combat, at least. Funnily enough, the moment I step too close to them, they start doing their melee attack, which is a bunch more devastating than their shot. My wife already remarked that Gearfoots looked like "turned" Blackguard when they unstretch, so there might be something to it. But yes, more dangerous in Melee than in Ranged, ironically.

I rarely see high-level Shivers, but when I do, they basically eviscerate me. Stilted are the worst, Iron is by far not enough to meet them face-to-face. I have one particular murder-hole disguising as a cave that I still could not fully explore, because there are two stilted ones constantly spawned there. I feel like reliving a trench war without trenches every time I crouch 5 meters further into it before dying. They are just hard to hit and too fast to not take one or two hits, by which point the rest of the cave has caught up to me. Anyway, Shivers in Temporal storms: Rare, but really deadly.

Generally, Storms are fine for me up till medium level. Everything above still kills me in varying degrees of speed. Being weighed down in bad against shivers; being melee only is bad against Bowtorn and Drifters; not being able to heal is bad all around. Maybe I just need to git gud.

Definitely upgrade to steel which offers tier 4 protection where iron gives only tier 3.  Steel chain might be better than iron plate and provides better manueverability than iron plate.
