Echo Weaver Posted July 11, 2025 Report Posted July 11, 2025 OK, I am FINALLY looking to upgrade my long-running 1.19 game to 1.20. I'd like some advice. Firstly, what happens to world settings when you upgrade? I know for one thing that I don't want to play with glue. What's the process of changing settings when upgrading an existing save? (OK, maybe I should verify my understanding of glue -- I think it allows you to take functional items out of ruins, but it doesn't allow you to turn destroyed clutter into functional items. Is that correct?) Recently, I've done a lot of playing with my teenage daughter. Is it safe to let us upgrade separately and for her to log in with her current inventory to the upgraded game? I've been considering asking her to log and move all of her inventory and gear into storage before I do the deed. What about mods with configs? Should I delete my 1.19 configs, generate the new ones with a fresh 1.20 world, and edit them if I need to? If my kid logs in after upgrading her game, will those changes be applied properly to her game or should she track them down and delete them?
wildforester Posted July 11, 2025 Report Posted July 11, 2025 While I’m sure you’ll get a response eventually, I bet the only way to be entirely sure of all these concerns would be to test using a copy.
Solution Zane Mordien Posted July 11, 2025 Solution Report Posted July 11, 2025 @Echo Weaver I didn't do anything special to upgrade my 1.19 world. I just logged in and it was fine. The new settings are turned off by default usually. Go find some clutter and see if it wants repaired. If it does then there is a command to change that setting. It shouldn't mess with your inventory but as always just save a backup copy of your game first. If you want to change any setting. /gm 2 /worldconfig That will list all the commands from the world configuration. So if something changes you don't like just find the correct command and set it off/on or true/false. I forget which one it is, but I do it all the time.
Echo Weaver Posted July 11, 2025 Author Report Posted July 11, 2025 Thanks for the reassurance @Zane Mordien! We have done it. The biggest issue seems to be a bunch of unrecognized stuff from Vanilla Variants because I guess those items were changed in vanilla, e.g. my birch trapdoors were not recognized because now there are two different kinds of trapdoors and the variant ones couldn't be upgraded. I haven't tried messing with clutter, but I'll check and be ready to change the setting.
Echo Weaver Posted July 11, 2025 Author Report Posted July 11, 2025 The one thing I've noticed so far is that I destroyed 3 skeps in my apiary and none of the bees were bothered at all? Are bees docile in 1.20, or is it that these are skeps upgraded from 1.19, or perhaps I'm just got lucky?
wildforester Posted July 13, 2025 Report Posted July 13, 2025 Bees don’t always swarm, I’d say you were lucky 1
