I've yet to try playing a first-person game on the steam deck. I always hated analog sticks for camera control, but haven't tried it on the dual track pads. How well does it translate? Does it take any sort of adjustment or learning curve?

What I'm most concerned about, however, are the key-combo inputs, such as ctrl + shift + right click. this game is pretty heavy on key combos, which I imagine feel much more awkward on a handheld controller than on a keyboard. Have you managed to make it work? Have you had to resort to writting macros?

I play on steam deck. Well technically I stream it on my steam deck.

It plays well. If you're used to changing up the control scheme on steam deck, you won't have a problem at all. I use the joystick to play, and the right track pad to move the mouse (left trackpad is scroll). I've always felt like playing mouse and keyboard games on steam deck is a bit of a chore, but if you tinker a bit you can dial it down pretty well. Worst part is controlling the mouse with your thumb, but the game is pretty forgiving for just doing that slowly.

I use the paddles for shift, ctrl, alt. That way I can click em when ever I need to. There's a configuration up in the community layouts, I used that as the template and then just edited it whenever I needed to. Since there's so many possible buttons, I've edited some for double clicks and long presses.

It's probably not the 100% best way to play, but I like playing on my steam deck. It's probably like 90-95% best. My couch provides the other 5-10% lol.

Didn't have to do macros at all.

I exclusively play VS on my Steam Deck. Or any game, really. Analog movement and trackpad+gyro camera is nearly the best way to control a game imo.

For VS specifically, I've got the grips set to Ctrl and Shift, I've got one grip set to toggle Alt on and off, Dpad for frequently-used functions like dropping, handbook, and switching tools, and you can bind the left trackpad and right joystick to menus to fill in the less used buttons.

I play VS occasionally on my Steam Deck, I haven't for a while; it is fairly fun, however from what I remember the controls were slightly annoying, I had to let the game be managed by Steam and then I used a control layout from there. Overall, it's nice to try out and the installation isn't horrible to figure out, but I'd rather just keep playing on PC.
