me and some of my mates really want to play this game we love the lore/world and the other survial mechanics but theres a lot of wait 40 mins for charcoal or wait x amount of time for clay molds we don't have a lot of time to play games after work and don't want to waste it waiting for stuff so i wanted to know if there was a way to lower some of the wait times

Hey I'm pretty new to the game, but also an older player with job and responsibilities...   I've found the waiting for things to get done is a core part of the game - figuring out how to balance resource collection vs crafting and timing your production chains so things land correctly (and you have enough to do during the night...) is what makes vintage story what it is.    I'm sure there are mods to change this, but I might be worth trying to embrace that this is a "slow" game and fun is enjoying each little technological leap for a bit vs zerging to the next thing.

This is the way. As @Fyrnos noted, most of Vintage Story's gameplay loops require some downtime, so it's a good idea to plan ahead when possible and complete certain things ahead of time(like starting a charcoal pit before you actually need charcoal in quantity), or otherwise find something else to work on while waiting for certain steps to complete.

That being said, you could try checking the database for mods that speed or simplify the gameplay loops you find a little too tedious, or try making your own mod if you can't find what you're looking for. Vintage Story was built with modding in mind, so it's fairly easy to jump right in even if you don't have a lot of coding experience.

Ok, this is one of the things I hate about this forum. It's like there is a general lack of respect for people's time.

If someone is asking how to do something, they probably aren't interested in your opinion of how they should play, they want help on achieving how they want to play.

Not everyone wants to drag a single save out into hundreds of hours, nor should they be forced to.

Some people just don't have the time even if they wanted to. I know it's hard to believe, but some people may only get a few hours per week to game.

</rant>

There are settings you can adjust in the world config to speed some things along, in an already existing world you can run most of them as console commands, some of them you need to also reload the game for them to take effect.

Other things you'd have to mod, or look for a mod that does what you want. The time to make charcoal would probably be one of those things.
