Delusional Dunmer Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 I'm just starting the game for the first time, and I've heard from a lot of people online that the temporal storms are a pain that happens too frequently on it's default settings. I was wondering what you normally set it to and would be a good recommended frequency setting?
Mrozak Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 I use default settings for: - Temporal storms: Approx. every 10-20 days, increase strength/frequency by 10% each time, capped at 100% - Temporal storm length: Normal (100%) but then i allow sleeping during storms: - Sleeping during temporal storms: Allowed Seems fine to me this way as long as there aren't too many people on the server so they can all go sleep if somebody asks nicely in the chat. And if they can't organize to sleep through it, then those who can't handle being outside can just crawl into some hole and wait it out. The moment you build a shelter, house, etc., Storms are not really a problem, unless you want them to be and go outside. If you are starting the game for the first time, i would recommend to stick to defaults. That way you can see for yourself how it is.

I don't allow sleeping through storms(temporal storms preventing sleep is default) since I prefer that as my standard setup. The storms are a pretty big deal in regards to the lore and overall setting, so it feels better to me to have it be a proper looming disaster that you're going to have to figure out how to deal with. However, if I'm doing some major testing in a world and don't want to bother with the storms, then I just enable sleeping through them. The reasoning for that is that way I can still do my testing with monsters and temporal mechanics enabled, and still go through the storms if I wish, but I also have the handy option of just skipping through them as well. Also welcome to the forums! If it's your first time in the game, I would recommend playing Exploration for an easier time learning the basic gameplay, but Standard is also perfectly fine as well(though it will be harder). I don't recommend Wilderness Survival for new players, unless they really want that style of game, since Vintage Story has a pretty steep learning curve and Wilderness Survival is incredibly unforgiving of mistakes. Another option to keep in mind that if it's just the monsters that you are struggling with, you can set a grace timer at the world's creation that will prevent them from spawning for a few days, which will give you a little time to figure out what you're doing before you have to deal with them.
Krougal Posted August 17, 2025 Report Posted August 17, 2025 (edited) Also like Mrozak. I like to have the option. When I was learning the game, I used to almost always sleep through them. These days, I seldom do. It pisses me off that it interrupts my plans for the day and I make the monsters pay for their insolence! The odd Jonas part is nice too. Edited August 17, 2025 by Krougal
