Original thought:

   - Adding a mechanic to where players could craft a soap item (Maybe a mix of fat, horsetail, and lime) to wash spoiled crocks, bowls, or cooking pots in water to get rid of the spoiled food.

   - Maybe use the same item shape as a stone, but reskinned to make the "soap bar".

  - Could use barrels to make the soap by mixing it, or a pot in the same mechanic that contaminates it.

   - Could use soap to remove contamination from pots by the same way to remove spoiled food.

Thing to keep in mind:

   - I am a fairly new player, so I don't know any other way to get rid of the spoiled item other than to bite the bullet and eat said spoiled food. :)

There's already a kind of way to do this I think. You throw the crock/bowl into a body of water. Wait a few seconds or so, and the rot floats out. If it's a sealed crock, you must first unseal it by using a bowl to take out a portion of the rot before it can be cleaned this way. I think the rot is lost when doing this too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though!

You can also just scoop the rot out of crocks with a bowl and then dump the bowl of rot into a barrel to start a composting.

Ctrl + Right-Click might also dump the bowl of rot like a bowl of water does.

I don't believe there is a way to clean residue covered pots though, but its easy enough to just dedicate the residue pot to crafts and stuff, and make a new pot for cooking in exclusively.

This is correct. I believe the wash mechanic is also described in the handbook, but it's somewhat easy to miss.

Also correct--a dirty pot is dirty forever, currently. Soap would be a good way to wash out those dirty pots though.

Pine pitch isn't soluble in water though.

This is true. However, it is soluble in alcohol and oils can also help remove it. So, I would propose, then, that adding mechanic for filling a pot with a strong wine or other spirit, or olive oil or so, would help dissolve the pitch and clean the pot. Or even soaps based on oils and such.

So first we'd have to port the Oils mod into Vanilla.

And the Soaps mod.

If those mods do already exist, then in a way, yes, but also no. Being that this is a forum to request things be added to the base game as regular mechanics, sometimes mods with the same functionalities already exist, but do not fully fulfill the needs of the request. The oils do not necessarily need to be added to the base game as a mechanic for this, it can just as easily be accomplished with the alcohols already present in game. Soaps could like wise be made from fat and other ingredients already present in the game. So, yes, it may take a concept presented in other mods, but, no, it does not mean it has to have the same overall functionality or items as those mods ported in since the base game already has much of what would be needed to clean the resin/pitch from pots.

Unless, I'm confusing what you mean?

No point reinventing the wheel, though.

If it's already around, they may as well integrate it for a further mechanic.

Alcohol could work, though. Finally give it a vanilla purpose
