I will add that to my game and see what happens. I wonder if having a lot of mods also impact this as well. Haha. Yeah, I looked it up and, "Concurrent garbage collection minimizes the pauses experienced by managed threads during a garbage collection cycle" sure does seem to fit the bill. I haven't played multiple hours since adding that line, but I was seeing a pause of a couple of seconds when I loaded my game, and that's gone. If we can confirm it works, I'll file an issue on the bug tracker.
Ryilo Posted October 8, 2025 Report Posted October 8, 2025 I have been having the game lock up on me too, the only relevant log line was saying that a game tick took over than 600ms, the game locks with one core stuck at 100% and memory used by the game continuing to raise. It happens irrelevant of what I do in the game. Sometimes I'm chiseling, sometimes smithing, sometimes just walking to another location... It can happen after 15 minutes of playing or after a couple of hours, and there is nothing written on the logs, so I can't track down the cause.
Professor Dragon Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 Is clay forming quicker, or am I imagining things?

The game just hard locked on me twice within a few minutes. Oddly enough...both times I was placing berry plants down at my base. Different ones but it froze. Of course it froze once before the above mentioned ones happened too.

In case it's useful, my entire runtimeconfig is: { "runtimeOptions": { "tfm": "net8.0", "framework": { "name": "Microsoft.NETCore.App", "version": "8.0.0" }, "configProperties": { "System.GC.NoAffinitize": true, "System.GC.Server": true, "System.Reflection.Metadata.MetadataUpdater.IsSupported": false, "System.Runtime.Serialization.EnableUnsafeBinaryFormatterSerialization": false, "System.Runtime.TieredPGO": true, "System.GC.Concurrent": true } } } Edited October 9, 2025 by Echo Weaver

I forgot to add a comma after the line for Alex's code. hehe. Once I did that it all worked. Of course it locked again even with that extra line in it. I just tried the code that you used and still no luck. The game won't launch for me. I might try to uninstall .NET from my Mac and reinstall it. I am running version 8.0.20 since I thought that maybe an upgrade would help. 1

It is not happy with that line from Alex that was added. 1
Flakeinator Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 (edited) Well ChatGPT tried to help but it seems I can't really make any changes to that json file without it failing to work. I am at a loss as to what the issue might be at this point. Maybe I should just try and go back to the file from Alex instead. Though it locked up there for me too. So maybe it has to do with one of the mods that I am running. I wonder if trying to run off of a server might make a difference. Edited October 9, 2025 by Flakeinator

Should I be concerned or not? I did learn that I can't enable gl debug mode since my video card doesn't support it. This is a Mac thing. They're just a nuisance. I believe it's because Mac doesn't actually implement the most recent version of OpenGL. I suspect this has some effect on performance, but it doesn't do any direct harm. When I'm testing a mod and outputting the log to the console, I have to filter those stupid lines out so that I can see anything at all that my mod might write.

What are you using to edit the file, and how are you reverting the changes? Is there any chance that it's not what you put in the file but something about the way the edited file is being saved out? Ugh, I'm grasping at anything, but it bugs me that you're getting a totally different behavior than I am.
Professor Dragon Posted October 9, 2025 Report Posted October 9, 2025 (edited) I'm not sure this is fixed. Fixed: Flat fog from weather no longer reduces deep cave visibility This picture was taken at L49 in a surface fog prone area. One second the cave visibility was fine, and the next the cave darkened over. The back circled torches are 8 blocks away. The closest torch is next to me. On the other hand, I'm enjoying a lot of the other changes. Too many to call out, so I'll just highlight that single shield display is back! I've added a Comment to: https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues/6228 Thanks, Professor Dragon. Edited October 9, 2025 by Professor Dragon

I just don't feel like opening XCode to make the edits. ***UPDATE*** So I just tried editing it in XCode and it seemed to take the changes and work properly. I will have to test it again in a few days and see what happens. Edited October 9, 2025 by Flakeinator
Flakeinator Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 @Echo Weaver Well even after adding the lines from Alex's file similar to yours I was able to only play about 5 minutes before the game hard locked and I had to force quit. I guess I will have to wait for a true fix for the game before I can play again. I might try to build a server and see if that makes a difference. 1

True...I will have to try that out too. The strange part is that it doesn't typically happen until I have a bit of time in the game and have explored. Maybe tonight I will give it a try without mods. Ugh... I haven't played vanilla in a long time but it is a fair test. I was trying to avoid that though.

I will request that you stop being the voice of reason in this insanity. I have created the same seed (why not) but without any mods to see what happens. It usually takes about 15-20 hours before an issue starts to happen so I will have to play a bit to see if anything happens. 1
Ryilo Posted October 10, 2025 Report Posted October 10, 2025 @Flakeinator I have been able to play without the game locking up in the past 2 days. What I did was to delete from the mods folder the mods I wasn't using (they were deactivated in the mod manager), you could try that. 1

I have like 60 mods installed and honestly...I probably don't need much of them. I started to clean up the followed mods big time to remove things I have never installed or that I really don't need. I will try removing things especially that are older too that might not work with 1.21.x as well.
