So... what's good or fun to do in the iron age besides making better tools?

Holy crap. You're right. It's not like I haven't interacted with dozens of traders. How did I not notice that they always say Local Traders on some mouseover? I guess I got the term "local trader" mixed up with "Survival Goods." The second one I went to check actually the Treasure Hunter. 🤣

ETA: Two treasure hunters. TWO.

Yeah, one of my early game mistakes was to not properly label traders on the map.  "Trader" isn't helpful.  I now say "Trader Agriculture" or whatever.

That's a good idea. 🙂

As I've got a long lasting world, I go further.

Each Trader automatically gets their own colour symbol generated by Auto Map Marker mod.
At that point I edit their name from "Artisan trader" to be "Floyd the Artisan Trader", as I prefer that. (And also the Auto Map Markers tend to double up sometimes.)

Then I add a separate map marker "!" just next to them. This is my "editing" marker, which I'll put notes on such as "Bring flax, leather" or "Out of gears" or "Restock in 5 days from 2 Jan Y8" or whatever.

But it's got to the point where I now maintain a separate document to track some key items for traders, such as which of the Collectibles I still need.

Professor Dragon.

Buh. The map markers should have a memo field!

i typically end up in the iron age right around as winter hits, which is rough -- there's way less to do in winter than there is in any other month.

i'm usually living out of a mud hut until then. winter at that point becomes about building a proper house, setting up a windmill and helve to mass produce lanterns and get some real armor forged, and doing a LOT of chiseling. it's kinda relaxing, since i spend all spring/summer/autumn farming, collecting, etc. to prep for winter.
