Tarningen Posted November 10, 2025 Report Posted November 10, 2025 Hi! Some friends and I recently bought the game and we are having a blast so far. The only thing holding us back is food (probably quite common) but because we are new to the game and looking for a somewhat more casual experience we would like to know if there is any way to make crops grow faster? We knew going into this that winters are the hard part of the game and so set the seasons to be longer to have more time to prepare. What we didn't know was that the speed at wich crops grow seems to be tied to the length of a season. As such we instead made the whole thing harder instead of easier. I have yet to find a command that alters this for the crops and the only thing I've found is editing the serverconfig.json file but due to the server being a paid one not hostet on any of our computers I doubt this will have any effect. Is there any way around this other than creating a new world? Thanks in advance 1
LadyWYT Posted November 10, 2025 Report Posted November 10, 2025 Welcome to the forums! First and foremost, the easiest way to address your issue is to invest in higher quality soils like high fertility soil(found in the wild) or terra preta(crafted). That alone should boost crop growth significantly. You can also make your farms larger, which doesn't speed up growth time but does ensure a larger harvest when everything does mature. 2 hours ago, Tarningen said: I have yet to find a command that alters this for the crops and the only thing I've found is editing the serverconfig.json file but due to the server being a paid one not hostet on any of our computers I doubt this will have any effect. Aside from what I mentioned above, the only other option I'm aware of is the modded route, which may or may not actually be possible depending on how your server is hosted. The official VS servers are currently vanilla-only. If your server can be modded though, you might try something like this: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/28295 1 1
Solution Professor Dragon Posted November 11, 2025 Solution Report Posted November 11, 2025 (edited) Adding to what @LadyWYT said, also greenhouses - they don't speed up crop growth, but they give you longer to get crops. And traders - they sell food. Creative mode - get food in bulk for free. And if you're doing this for fun, and can do mods, then hit the mods hard. Endless options for easier fun. Crop Speed If you can use commands, then you can adjust crop cross (typo!) growth speed directly via cropGrowthRateMul. https://wiki.vintagestory.at/World_Configuration/en Configurations not in the customize world screen These configs need to be created first. Subsequent edits to those can be done with /worldconfig [variable name] [value] /worldconfigcreate double cropGrowthRateMul [0.1 ... 10] Sets the growth rate for crops and berry bushes.
