Clean cave art with water??

So, i was playing and found out you can paint with charcoal (any coal), but can't wash it with water?
By instinct i thought i could just... wash it with water, but i could not, it'd be a very interesting mechanic if possible to be in the game.
Also, enjoying the game so much...

You might want to try a watering can.
