Ursiak Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 Hello everyone! Do any of you know of any mods that retexture the rust creatures or change them into other mobs? My problem is that they are too scary for me and I don't do well with sudden attacks. I usually play the game without the sound on, so anytime anything attacks me it's an unpleasant surprise. I play with a mod that completely disables their spawn, but I'm looking for a middle ground between that and the vanilla. The thing is, I don't think it's fair for me to do any story dungeons without the monsters in them, so despite being 100+ hours in, I haven't touched any plot related locations. But I dread to think of going to the first place (archives?) with all the monsters inside. I even thought about buying my partner the game just so we can go there together in multiplayer, but I'm short on cash right now. The bosses are not the problem, only the usual monsters are. I've seen mods that change the sounds or the spawning places, but I'm looking for more visual changes. Even turning them, idk, pink, or making them glow a little so they're more visible Now that I think about it, that would be a great mod.
ifoz Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 It wouldn't be that tricky to go into the files yourself and hue shift the monster textures to a silly colour, or replace the sound effects with your own. Granted, that wouldn't really help if the animations are the thing that scare you the most.
pigfood Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 I haven't used it, but there is the 'Glowtorns' mod, which makes Bowtorns glow. It would be pretty easy for the mod author (or maybe even yourself if you look at .json modding) to add other creatures.

Animations aren't really the problem, I was thinking more about changing their hue or making them glow simply to make them easier to notice before they attack. And I would feel silly asking someone to change their mod for me Maybe I should look into doing that myself, but I have never made any mods or retextures. Do any of you have any recommendations on tutorials to get started?

The best drifter retexture: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/37974 It gives them dapper suits! There are also sound replacers like these, though I don't know how much they would help: Drifter Monkey: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/36706 Plankton Drifters: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/24552 For shivers you can give them cigarettes and Starbucks, as well as make them sound like clowns: Chill Shivers: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/38375 Silly Shivers: https://mods.vintagestory.at/sillyshivers And the Glowtorns mod, if you need the link: https://mods.vintagestory.at/glowtorns There are other mods that make tweaks, but overall I don't think there's really much to make the monsters less scary. It's usually the opposite. 7 hours ago, Ursiak said: My problem is that they are too scary for me and I don't do well with sudden attacks. You might try changing creature hostility, in that case, and you should be able to adjust it even after creating the world. The command /worldconfig creatureHostility [aggressive|passive|off] should allow you to switch aggression to whichever level you prefer, just make sure to type the correct option without the brackets, then reload the world for the change to take place. The options should be as follows: Aggressive: Enemies will try to attack you as soon as they notice you. Passive: Enemies will only attack you if you attack them first. Off: Enemies will never attack you. I would recommend giving "passive" a try, since that will still retain some of the challenge, but stop the monsters from spooking you as badly. 1

Thank you for your recommendations! I'll check them out, but as you said, there are for specific mobs. I realise that most people want to make the monsters scarier, so those types of mods are way more popular. I'm just get easily scared, despite being a grown ass man
Rue Rayne Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 I am SO like you, I hate the rust mobs, and I usually am not bothered by monsters in games. These guys skeeve me out. I downloaded the mod that made them disappear and that was great, but then I got bored. So, I added Feverstone Wilds but they aren't very aggressive at all. So now I have a world full of animals that hardly ever attack. I wish there was a mod that made all of them look different! Pink would be pretty funny

Pink would be pretty funny If you go into your Vintagestory folder (in your appdata), then navigate to assets->survival->textures->entity->lore you can find the monster textures. From there you could hue shift them to pink with basically any image editing software. 1
