[Community Poll] Video Tutorials for Modding Tutorials

Hi all - I'm considering making some video tutorials for the existing modding tutorials that exist on the wiki. These will be updated and verified regularly to ensure they remain up-to-date.

I think such a thing would be extremely useful, since people have different learning styles. Written instructions are great and all, but sometimes one just needs to actually see an example in order for the described process to actually click.

Zero hesitation. As @LadyWYT said, everyone learns differently. Having to decipher what I'm reading on the wiki and relate it to what I'm seeing on the page can be a real head scratcher at times!

It also occurs to me that it would probably make things easier too for those who aren't fluent in English. A well-made visual tutorial is quite easy to follow, even if you don't understand anything the speakers themselves are saying.

You know... if you needed a "demonstration" mod to work on to show others how to mod themselves, I know of this of this really big mod request that's bound to let you cover lots of areas and topics - enough for a whole series! :

holy cow... whoever submitted that mod request really did their homework. That's quite the challenge. I would dare say it's worthy of being it's own expansion for the game.

Nice try , but I think it's much better to keep things simple for demonstration videos. A mod that overhauls celestial bodies entirely is going to be way too complicated for most people to follow along, plus it doesn't really cover areas like modeling and animating said models.

Indeed; Most of these videos will be one-shot tutorials that are not linked to each other.

Perhaps, in the future, we could do some long videos of zero to full mod kind of thing, but it will never be a particularly huge mod.

I think videos are necessary. As a complete novice with no prior knowledge, I tried to create my first mod using "https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Modding:Code_Tutorial_Simple_Block", but even following the step-by-step instructions, I couldn't complete it because I didn't know the meanings of many specialized terms. Finally, it was with the help of ChatGPT that this module was completed.

Hey @Nat_VS, you probably already thought of it, but I just thought of a (tangible) idea you could do for one of your videos:

Mob Making

Good opportunity to go through the processes of model building, spawn conditions, behaviours etc.

Figured I got to learn how to mod myself sometime if I want the best navigational experience the entire global gaming community has ever seen so I'm thinking of starting with some Thalassophobia inducing ocean critters
