Sylvite and Prospecting Pick

Hello! I've been trying to research how sylvite shows up on the prospecting pick. Does it show up in both density and node search? I know that it's found only in halite, and I have found halite using the density search.

In density search, halite does appear, but sylvite does not. Halite generates in two types of deposits, and only salt domes show up in density search, but you can stumble upon salt lake beds near the surface in hot climates as well.

In node search, halite is not detected, but sylvite is, so it's still useful to use node search when trying to locate a salt dome.

Sylvite is pretty rare. Salt domes may or may not have sylvite deposits, similar to quartz that can host gold or silver. You get some scattered blocks of sylvite, similar to gold.

When digging tunnels, looking for salt domes, node search for sylvite helps a little bit with finding salt domes that you might have otherwise missed.

I wouldn't consider finding enough sylvite for fertilizing a large farm very practical. I.e., in my current game, I have a trunk full of halite and have 40 or so sylvite.

Ah, gotcha! My main desire to have sylvite is to fertilize a small greenhouse (which, it's only purpose is to grow flax). I believe it's my best option for what I want.

I don't get the point of greenhouses, given the amount of effort involved. As far as I can tell, they are almost completely useless. The +5C temperature doesn't do anything particularly useful most of the time. In rare occasions, you might be able to get an additional harvest.

Going from medium fertility soil to high fertility soil is useful (or using sylvite on medium fertility soil, which is quite similar). Fertilizing high fertility soil with sylvite makes a very, very modest difference.

Launching off on a tangent - if growing flax is the goal, I assume to produce the obscenely huge amounts necessary for things like windmills and sailboats; your best bet to produce such amounts of flax fiber is to grow a couple stacks of flax seeds in a garden/farm during the summer (or the appropriate time of year for flax's perferred growing temperature).

In temperate regions a greenhouse can extend growing seasons by about a month before and after a crop's growing season outside of a greenhouse.   It can provide an additional harvest per year, provided the soil nutrient levels are sufficient for maximum growth speed.  Given the yield of crops, before 1.22 it doesn't make a lot of sense to build a greenhouse.  The changes to harvest yields described in the patch notes for 1.22 may make greenhouses more attractive.

In arctic climates a greenhouse is likely to only way to grow any crops whatsoever.

I mean, personally, I just want one to have one - like for the joy of it. I'm not the type of player who min/maxs everything. I also didn't think that getting quartz and smelting it in a couple of bloomeries was very much effort on my part. I was going to get glass anyway.

Haha yeah, it's not the most efficient route, but I'm okay with that! For right now, I just want enough for bombs. I also like how the greenhouse separates the flax from the rest of my crops; it's more of an ✨aesthetic✨ thing.
