I think the other block game style of building is nice for the most part (very accessible, easy to use etc) 

but for roofs, and some wall building materials I think a framing mechanic would be very nice.

For roofs I think it would be nice to be able to use a support beam like mechanism to make a roof frame whatever shape you want (right now it’s basically impossible to make more complex shapes like gambrels without extensive chiseling) and then add whatever roofing material on after; nailing on shingles, thatching, etc. as well as being able to remove said material and replace it without tearing the whole roof off.(could be a good way to add a new tool in the form of a slate ripper for removing shingles) 

for walls it would be nice to use the same mechanism to make timber frame structures, and then infill them with either wattle and daub or brick  nogging. As of right now if you want a traditional timber frame look you have to build the whole building with wattle and daub, clay, brick, etc then go in after and painstakingly add all the support beams onto the outside of the structure, and it would be nice if the beams were actually part of the structure. 

could add siding options in the form of thinner vertical halfslabs to put over full blocks like clapboards/shakes.

(in the same vein a way to stucco masonry in the same way wattle and daub works would also be really nice)

Obviously the support beams as they are now wouldn’t work because they are super janky but with some reworking I think it would fit in the game very well and allow for a lot more realism/customization which is always appreciated with this game.

for masonry (brick/stone) I think the current system of making whole blocks and placing them works fine. As individually laying each stone or brick would be very tedious, but I think infilling framing for walls and roofs would actually be much less tedious than the current system and allow for a lot more versatility.
