I had a dream about the Thunder Warden. I dreamt that further on into the chapters, you build four different “portal” structures at key locations around the world. These portals were made from various materials relevant to the locations they were built in.

Then, when the next temporal storm comes, you would try to position the Storm Lord between all of them. Those portals would then launch a beam that shocks Dave and basically dismantles it, it collapses and falls apart. Inside of Dave is Jonas Falx, who is attached/incorporated into the machine. We learn from him that the Thunder Lord is keeping him alive, and I guess he’s the cause of the temporal storms. Wherever he walks, the temporal storms follow, and it’s a result of the machine sucking up the life energy or whatever around him.

Although if this story were to make actual sense it might be better if Jonas piloted Dave into the rust world and is just stuck there harvesting it’s energy to keep him alive.

Funny you say all that...because last night I had a really weird dream about eidolons and cathedrals. I don't remember exactly what happened, only that I was exploring these ruined cathedrals and it was really spooky. Everything was oversized, as sometimes happens in a dream, but the eidolons man...I don't think the game does them justice at the moment. Picture entering a ruined cathedral at night, with ripped tapestries and bits of rope and chain hanging from the ceiling. Then picture an eidolon walking out of said gloom to confront you...an eidolon that's roughly the size of the Iron Giant, mind you.

Don't ask me how the fight went, because I really don't know 🤣 in the dream I was making a hasty retreat and that was about the time I woke up.

I've had a theory for a while now about Jonas being either attached to a machine, or having his consciousness linked to one, sort of like you mentioned.
Spoilered for mentions of ch2 content, but this is why I think this could be something that is revealed at a later point in the story:

Spoiler

Tobias is regarded as a saint in Nadiya and is said to command angels, somewhat implied to be a sort of folklore-ification of the Seraphs. The Morning short story makes mention of a sort of machine "god" that aided Bearfirth. I just think it would be too thematically fitting not to consider that Jonas is in some way that machine god. Seraphs are his metaphorical "angels", Tobias is a "saint", and Jonas is the "god". It is also in line with Jonas being treated as a messiah figure by those in the underground, much as he disliked it.

I quite like it. I think the idea of Jonas being at the center of Dave is a compelling idea on its own. Perhaps the rot keeps him attached to Dave itself, something SCORN adjacent, perhaps..
