Hey! New player here looking for a good long-term seed. I'm a big fan of mountains but have been struggling to find a seed that has good looking ones, decent water access, AND higher than low quality soil/animal presence. Any seeds you could suggest to me? Or world gen modifiers.

Take a look at Hmuda's setup for his new series in 1.22. He discusses his settings and also provides the seed (shows it onscreen at the end of configuring the world).

Welcome to the game and forums!

Outside of videos like @dakko is talking about, the best way I have found for having a good game world is to mess with the settings to get what you would like, and then generate worlds and check them out. I have not seen a place where people regularly post seeds, possibly due to the game continuously evolving thus slightly changing it. So unfortunately it does tend to be a fair bit of RNG and exploration for finding a good world/place to set up.

For the settings you should be able to find a few guides floating around, on YouTube and here on the forums as well! I love mountains myself and want oceans so crank landform scale all the way up and decrease how much of the world is land, roughly to about 50-60% (still experimenting lol).

Hope any of that helps! 🦎

from my notes on Hmuda's observations, if it helps anyone:

Landcover: 80%
Landcover scale: 100%
Together this creates large interconnected landmass with massive lakes & seas.

Upheaval rate: 50%
Experimenting, he set it to 0, then 50%; assumed it would affect size of mtns, but it adjusts overall hilly-ness. Has gentle hills and is more interesting.

Landform scale: 120%
Makes everything 20% bigger (mtns, biomes, canyons, etc)

Thank you! For the welcome and the advice. I'll be sure to continue to pray to RNGesus but maybe my problem is I'm looking for a spawn that's mountainous rather than a whole world that is? I love exploring, and that includes exploring a variety of biomes/areas. If there a mod to control world gen near spawn like that?

Follow up question: I know bauxite is like, rare rare, so if while pulling worlds I found a beautiful cliff face area of the stuff, should I call it a day and just use that seed lmao. It's genuinely stunning and has water around, I just worry about wood availability since it seems more wind-swept mountains and plains than forested from my fifteen minutes wandering.

There is something to be said for a beautiful setting! If lack of trees is the only thing holding you back, remember that you can always plant them. The trick to getting more seeds AND more sticks is to break the leaves before felling a tree.

I get what you mean, I think you would have to really mess with the world settings for it to be all mountains and even then I do not know if that is 100% possible without some sort of mod, so no worries there.

As for a mod that gives you a set start, I do not think there is such a mod, at least not that I know of. I am sure it is technically possible, but might be complicated to make.

I would not worry a ton about that, as later on resource gathering will make starting in a bauxite are somewhat moot. It would be amazing if you had a good spawn that had that and some source of lime, like limestone or chalk, but they are not necessary.

Also it may be beneficial to change your game mode to creative when scouting out a world so you can move faster as you can fly and increase your move speed. You can also use the /time stop command to allow you to explore without time progressing. That is what I do 🦎.
