InfiniteDice Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 Have a dedicated server, join with client (same PC). Daughter joins with client (other PC). Play for weeks. Decide to start a single player game just to play around and test a few things... Where did my dedicated server game go? Oh it's overwritten. NICE I have better ways to waste my life... this is LAZY implementation. SAVE DEDICATED SERVER FILES TO A DIFFERENT DIRECTORY than single player saves! Anyways... by for now.. probably forever.
Vojta Berka Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 Quote Hey man... im feeling you - i really do. We had server with friends for over year old now... few updates survived without getting overwritten... and now? You can guess the results... same as yours. We lost everything...
williams_482 Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 I'm planning to set up a LAN server on the same computer I often use to play singleplayer. How can I prevent this from happening?

How can I prevent this from happening? The official wiki page for setting up a dedicated server tells you how to change the data path so the two do not fight. It has been a long while since I looked, however I believe it also gave steps and or an example but do not quote me on that part. You should also be able to find a few tutorials or guides floating around. 1

IIRC the world a dedicated server uses is named "default" and the server config switches to a new world when you first make one. I am not 100% sure, but it may still be in you game saves. I think I ran into a similar situation with my server in the beginning, though I have been running thr server and my game on separate rigs for a long while now. I hope the world still exists, I can imagine that is a massive loss. Edited April 20 by Foe Hammer Typo and clarification. 1
