Hello everyone, if this isn't the right place for this type of concern, I apologize. I've recently received some type of rendering error when approaching a certain location pertaining to the story. This crashed my game both times I approached the location. I posted about it on the Github, it was closed as a duplicate, and now my game won't stop stuttering. I get to play for about 45 seconds of every minute due to stutters that just come about randomly; moving around, looking around, opening chests, menus, the handbook, anything. Even stutters on the home screen. This is only a problem on VS and my hardware is fine. What do I do? Clean install?

Welcome to the forums!

For these kinds of issues its better to post in the /forums/forum/vintarian-support/ page.

You might want to clean install/reinstall, BUT BEFORE THAT, there might be some other more experienced people like @Byrnorthil who probably have a better idea of the issues at hand. If it boils down to a clean install, then that sucks, however you might be able to save some of your progress by backing up specific files. (Can someone with better knowledge of these types of things confirm if this would work? Thanks!)

It would help a lot if you could explain a bit more in regards to your hardware/OS, is your ram/cpu running on 90%? Are you running VS on linux? What does the ingame FPS counter say?

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for your reply and further direction- my computer is running fine and I'm typically running around 120FPS, it seems to be a rendering issue. 2080 Super (old I know), Ryzen 9 3900x, 32gb DDR4, Win10 Pro. Driver update came through last night, that may have something to do with it, it's just the correlation between the corrupted area crashes and then loading in immediately after to harsh stuttering everywhere, not just near the problem area. I think the driver update may fix it, will update if I learn more!

Did you take a look at the issue yours was marked as a duplicate of? https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues/9139

In the thread of that issue Tyron stated:

Quote

Thanks for the report. will no longer crash in the upcoming 1.22.3

So, the crash isn't your fault, and there's not much you can do but wait till the new update comes out.

Now, the repeated stuttering sounds like a more-or-less completely separate issue, and you should file it as such. Be sure to provide logs, and a video recording would probably be helpful as well if you can make that work. Before you file however, you should do a search of the existing open issues to see if someone else has already reported the same problem. If they have, give their thread a like and post your logs and such there as an additional testimony.

Thank you very much! My initial post came across a bit too negative, I meant no ill will towards the developers or anything along those lines. I appreciate the lesson on report etiquette, I'm obviously pretty new to all of this and the direction is much appreciated. I'll check the bug reports for stuttering issues exemplifying characteristics similar to mine, if nothing seems to match up, I'll try to get video and upload a new ticket.

Thank you both for your time!

Update: Driver refresh fixed it, so sorry for wasting everyone's time with such a simple concern. Thank you again for the help! I was so sad to potentially lose my main source of the good ole escapism drug

You dont have to apologise, /support/ is there to make sure people gets to have the ideal vintage story experience without problems, no matter of how big or small the problem is.

Everyone deserves help, regardless if their problem is less serious than anothers, help shouldnt have an entry level requirement. (This applies to real life, too!)

Have a great day, and good luck on your journey through this little gem of a game!
