badsigreception Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 I was trying to make red cloths for the arctic hunter sets and I thought I needed powdered cinnabar to turn them into red dye in a barrel, turns out I only need crushed cinnabar.. which I've already grinded all of them into powder, (and I have ever only found them on the mantle, yes, ON THE MANTLE, I don't want to get 2 clapped by a nightmare drifter again) but realistically speaking I should still be able to use powdered cinnabar right? It's like saying you can't use fine salt for cooking and have to use coarse salt.. but they're still salt, probably a bad analogy to compare with but you get my point. Also, powdered cinnabar is in a strange position, why can we grind them, but there's no uses for it? I mean you can't even use it on signs. Unless you count displaying them on shelves counts as useful then idk, maybe there's some hidden black magic I'm missing who knows.
Byrnorthil Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 I'd probably just pop into creative mode for a moment and get your original cinnabar back that way. The game is like this sometimes so it's not unfair to rectify this kind of silly mistake as long as you end up having more fun in the end. 2
Maelstrom Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Cinnabar is used to make red dye. In the barrel you have the wrong proportion of water to cinnabar so it appears to be useless. The handbook entry for red dye should have the proportion of cinnabar to water you need to make red dye.

I know that, I didn't bother grinding the rest of the 2 crushed cinnabars when I realized the handbook only accepts crushed and not powdered so I stopped mid way, it's kind of a bad habit of mine checking the guide after I've done doing something lol, so I just put the rest of my lonely crushed cinnabars in the barrel to remind me of my mistakes

I ended up giving myself all those cinnabars back and removed the powdered ones, I'd just imagine my seraph had a bad dream one day and decided "crushed yes, powdered no" in the next day rofl

I'll quote my 9th grade science teacher (the bestest most awesomest teacher I ever had!) and try to convey visually how he sounded. "When all else fails. Read the directions." edit: as for things that currently have no purpose? Yep. Probably because it is something intended for the future but sometimes it's something left to modders, such as uranium ore. End game tech is steam power which is long before uranium has any uses. It seems that Tyron is allowing for the potential for nuclear power to be developed by modders. Edited May 13 by Maelstrom
