Danny97 Posted June 26 Report Posted June 26 I accidentally deleted a 50 hour vanilla world i was very fond of which bummed me out for a bit so i didn't play for a few months until one night, like a week ago, when i decided to hop back on. I completely recreated my house, basement, farm and windmill from memory within the first 6-10 hours of playing and with nothing left to do i went after steel which is now in the middle of cooking at hour 20 giving me plenty of time to think and realize I was bored out of my mind. Now i find myself standing on a pile of leather, iron and a near endless supply of food in an empty 2 story house (that enemies still somehow manage to spawn in from time to time) and i honestly feel like I've been doing the same song and dance for the past 300 hours with nothing to show for it,namely reaching a point where i feel like there's nothing left to achieve. I thought about building something massive like a castle of a cathedral but just thinking about how slow collecting the basic, raw materials even with steel tools is it felt like a chore, not to mention all the nicer looking blocks that need extra materials that on top of that need to be prepared in different, specific ways (cooking, grinding, mixing ect),it's just so much busy work i don't feel like I'm playing a game anymore but rather like i've gone to my 9-5. I've been to the devastation and all the story ruins on previous worlds and while they were fun the first couple of times i just don't feel like walking/riding for days, both ways, multiple times, for the 5th time just so i can have a slapping match with a janky boss that pretends to have good AI. Multiplayer was fun for a hot second and i met some nice people until literally every server i tried playing on went from "just a few mods" to "downloading 12 out of 174" and "we reduced hunger rates, made iron overly abundant and removed food spoilage" once the designated "discord kitten" gets in the ear of the guy in charge (this has happened 3 times so far). I'm lost, this game was clearly made to be played by multiple people with different roles and while i would love to play with others none of my friends like this game and a big chunk of the player base is "neurodivergent" people that like to collect disorders like stamps in an attempt to seem interesting, the occasional 30 year old "i'm a girl you guys" woman, the other type of "woman" and a few guys who make actually being autistic their entire personality (don't worry they will let you know). No but i seriously think my biggest gripe with the game at this point is how collecting materials is mind numbingly slow even with the best possible equipment which is disappointing considering the amount of gymnastics you have to go through to get them. I'm rambling at this point so I'll stop here but not before saying the glider is ever more disappointing than steel tools.

It's a lot of work, but you'll have full control over how it's set up and what the expected behavior is. Ultimately, the key to multiplayer is finding a group of players that you both get along with and enjoy playing with. Sometimes that can take a while. 12 hours ago, Danny97 said: Now i find myself standing on a pile of leather, iron and a near endless supply of food in an empty 2 story house (that enemies still somehow manage to spawn in from time to time) and i honestly feel like I've been doing the same song and dance for the past 300 hours with nothing to show for it,namely reaching a point where i feel like there's nothing left to achieve. Large building projects in Vintage Story are something that, in my experience, are better handled in smaller chunks over the course of the game, rather than trying to build the entire thing within a session or two. That helps keep the project from getting too overwhelming since you'll only need to acquire the materials for a small chunk of it at a time, rather than trying to produce, say, a hundred lanterns to light up a huge mansion or something. It's also a prime opportunity to play a class you haven't played before, mess around with mods, or attempt some sort of challenge playthrough(like snowball earth or sticking exclusively to a nomad lifestyle). Of course, it's also perfectly okay to take a break and play something else for a while too. Burnout happens to everyone, and taking a break is a good way to recharge and come back refreshed when a new update drops.
