YourWaterDispenser-UwU Posted August 1 Report Posted August 1 currently i cant seem to figure out what i need to host the game on my side (ad-hoc) as it seems to be incompatible with my router (at least in my opinion), but my friend can host the game just fine and i cant seem to be able to join them (connection just times out) is there anything i need to setup on my side to join my friend or is it just straight up incompatible? (would like to know soon as the friend just bought the game to play together)
Descruff Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 Ive never attempted Ad-Hoc, since all my friends and I are many miles apart so we aren't exactly on the same LAN . (I use Linux, and my friends all use Windows) But running a dedicated server (turning it on/off when we are all online) we have done. Ive only hosted once though but I can connected to them plenty of times no problem once the server was set up right. - Which did take a bit of tinkering.
Dilan Rona Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 Yes you can. You do need the same version of the game and server, but the underlying operating system really doesnt matter.
YourWaterDispenser-UwU Posted August 2 Author Report Posted August 2 i will explain what i have already tried on my system and what i cannot do on my friends system On my system and router i attempted to port forward the game port 42420 (including allowing it through my firewall) which did not work it still says that a UPnP device was not detected as on my friends system it in theory works (the game says that it succeeded) but since i cannot connect and we cannot setup port forwarding in their machine i cant be sure if it actually worked on their end
Solution DeanF Posted Thursday at 12:53 AM Solution Report Posted Thursday at 12:53 AM Sometimes ad-hoc simply won't work, depending upon your router settings. And from what I have read, the fix is very obscure, and highly variable depending upon the router and it's firmware. Like, to the point that what I have read recommended not even trying, and just setting up your own server.
