Steel furnace no longer working?

my steel furnace no longer works, i have torn down and rebuilt the entire thing, breaking any blocks tells me those blocks are missing but when i place them back it suddenly shifts the entire blueprint back by one block, tried rebuilding it somewhere else and the same thing happens

this is modded but none of the mods affect steel making and it was working fine for 2 entire firings of steel before, this is also on my dedicated server which i have restarted several times which hasnt fixed this, and it has also started happening in singleplayer worlds

i didnt update or add any new mods i have no clue why this is happening now

flipping the structure around seems to work??

I'd suspect a broken block, maybe even a broken grate until you said you rebuilt it.  I believe the blueprint bases the construction on where you place the six grates.  Seems that the grates may be offset a block from where you built the rest of the furnace.

it seems like rotating where the grates and door are worked, no clue why its being weird still since i tested it in a creative world and building it in that specific orientation always breaks, but building it mirrored works

That brings me back to when the steel furnace was first introduced.  I believe it was dicey unless the door was oriented to the north.  That was fixed in 1.16.  Hopefully that bug hasn't reincarnated.

im pretty sure thats exactly what happened haha, it has to be oriented in a specific way to work now suddenly
