i found a plant that would fit right in inside the desert biomes of Vintage Story. its edible for both animals and people. according to google its technically a veggie.

Elephant grass (also known as Napier grass or Cenchrus purpureus) is edible for humans, though only the young, tender inner shoots and stalks are consumed rather than the tough, fibrous mature leaves.

Edible Parts and Preparation

• Young Shoots: People peel away the tough outer layers to reach the soft inner core, which has a mild flavor and texture similar to asparagus or bamboo shoots.
• Cooking Methods: It is rarely eaten raw because of its texture; instead, the tender pieces are typically chopped and cooked in soups, stews, or potherbs (such as achara in parts of Southeastern Nigeria).
• Nutritional and Medicinal Uses: The young shoots contain protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, calcium, and antioxidants, and traditional herbal preparations use leaf or stalk infusions as diuretics or mild treatments.

Limitations for People

• Mature Grass: Older, full-grown elephant grass is far too fibrous and tough for human digestion, which is why it is primarily cultivated as high-biomass livestock forage for cattle, goats, and elephants rather than a staple human food.

Characteristics
Elephant grass has a thick, rounded stalk with tinges of purple. It is somewhat similar to sugarcane in appearance. The edible inner shoots are similar in both texture and mild flavor to asparagus shoots.

Preparation
The young, tender shoots and leaves are the edible portion for humans, and the outer layer should be peeled away to access the tender interior. Discard any part of the young shoot that is too tough to easily break into pieces.

Use
The grass is typically cooked in soups and stews.
