Does earth dry out faster if there is a cavity under the earth's layer?

Does soil dry out faster if there is a cavity under the soil's (agriculter's) layer? Cavity, because I have a small handmade cave for prospecting jobs. Should I fill up again or can I let it be, the handmade cavity?
