emsee Posted September 23, 2025 Report Posted September 23, 2025 i have attached the controller config from OP, since it seems steam handles the controller:// handler incorrectly (at the time of this post) extract/place the .vdf in /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Steam Controller Configs/<steamid>/config/<gamename> <steamid> is your steamid folder, if you are the only user it should be the only one <gamename> is whatever you named vintage story when you added to steam. if you named it "Vintage Story" place is in the "vintage story" folder. if it doesnt exist, you can just create a folder with the same name as in Steam. also, i would like to add, if you are doing the cross-save sync and hate re-logging in everytime on each device. open these two files %APPDATA%\VintagestoryData\clientsettings.json and /home/deck/.var/app/at.vintagestory.VintageStory/config/VintagestoryData/clientsettings.json search for "stringSettings": { until the end "}". on mine, it ended in "currentHandbookCategoryCode": "guide" }, and make sure they both match to the last device you logged in. if you last logged in with PC, use the PC's settings on the Deck's settings and vice versa. 3246456598_controller_config.zip 2

cbhu235 Posted October 20, 2025 Report Posted October 20, 2025 Apologies in advance if my formatting is off. Really appreciate the guide conninator2000. I’m new to the steam deck and tried to do the syncthing gtk work around. The interface shows green for both my PC and my deck but when I load the game on the deck it doesn’t show the save files from my PC, just the deck. Not sure where I’m going wrong.

Hmm ill need some more information on it but if its showing green, then thats at least a good initial sign. One big quirk is that both the PC and deck syncthing have to be running at the same time, so on deck you want it running through decky if you dont want to have to load desktop mode up all the time. So in case they aren't running at the same time or you havent given it a good 5-10 minutes to let it sync on its own and update the other, then those could be quirks as well. A really easy way to test this, is to just make a folder or temporary file on the PC end, wait for it to sync and then check the steam deck desktop to make sure the file showed up on the deck. After that, check that you copied the filter correctly since it limits the types of files and what folders to explicitly ignore. If you checked all of that and still didn't find the culprit, take some screenshots of the syncthing connection info from both the steam deck and PC side (and dont forget to censor stuff like your IP address). Its mostly to check when they are updating/syncing last. The system works when it works but sometimes I find if i have to head out and close down my PC version it can take a little while for syncthing to do its regular scans, a bit more time for the deck to receive it and download it, and then for it to show up. So its not always pick up and play friendly, but as long as you have it running on both and get a drink or something between switching then its rarely an issue you run into. The absolute worst case I had was the save didn't transfer and then there was a conflict (any files that have both changed since the last update get put in and have 'syncthing-conflict-[date]' added to them so you can look at which you want to keep and which you want to remove). Hope that helps @cbhu235
peebody Posted October 21, 2025 Report Posted October 21, 2025 Might not be entirely related but I do play on my steam deck only so I don't know if the controls would be different...I use KBM still, just through the dock. Either way, quick question: I've put in over 100 hours trying to find some purpleheart trees and I just cannot find them. I have traveled to the very southern border and covered the whole world from east to west trying to find a jungle climate but the best I could find was the redwood area. I thought I was close when I found them as well as the sunflowers near by but I never could find a more typical jungle biome. Can someone kindly tell me how to type some command in the in-game chat to spawn some purpleheart logs/seeds/etc? I assume there's some creative mode where I can use commands to spawn anything in, right? I'm pretty new to PC gaming so just pretend like I'm 5 years old and don't understand anything if you can. Thanks in advance, guys.

EternalLight Posted December 1, 2025 Report Posted December 1, 2025 Hi, I'm also looking for a good controller layout as a new arrival to Vintage Story. I can see many community layouts but nothing that refers to Mark 1, 1.1 etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1

This works! They attached the .zip file, and once you follow the directions, you can open controller configs and vintage story [mark 1] is available! 3246456598_controller_config.zip
Warrius Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 Oh nice, I'll give that a look. If for some reason that breaks or doesn't pan out "DJ's Vintage Story Steam Controller Config" works pretty well out of the box though I did tweak a couple of settings to make it a bit more usable for my specific preferences. Has anyone thrown something together to get some proper metadata in the Steam client for the game?
EternalLight Posted December 25, 2025 Report Posted December 25, 2025 Quick update on this, many thanks to SuperDynamicCow and of course the OP for the controller zip, that has worked fine. Apologies for the delay in thanks, the Steam Deck was a Christmas present so it was only today that we were able to retry. We do have a secondary problem in that Steam + X isn't bringing up the keyboard, but to save me making the same mistake I went through this thread with a fine toothcomb, and I'm 99% it's because we're coming from desktop mode. Fingers crossed a quick reboot straight into gaming mode will resolve that one. 1
Mat Nightingale Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 Can anyone highlight what I'm doing wrong in my Steam Deck set up. The game install and runs fine on the SD, so I'm trying to sync my save game that I mostly play on my PC and I'm following the guide. Syncthing say's its syncing things (Global State and Local State are both 368 files, and ~718Mb) but the VintageStoryData folder is only showing the test game I made on my SD, not the PC's save game. If I change the the sync folder location from the recommended "/home/deck/.var/app/at.vintagestory.VintageStory/' to my SteamDeck downloads folder as a test it works fine and copies my most recent save across. This makes me think that all the elements are there but it's a permissions issue. I've run this command a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change anything sudo flatpak override me.kozec.syncthingtk --filesystem="/home/deck/.var/app/at.vintagestory.VintageStory/"
