Calm flowing pond water?

I removed some dirt from the edge of a pond and now there are currents of water- (and a trapped sheep). Is there a command or technique that will make the water flat and calm?

If you make a bucket, you can pick up water, and use it to create infinite source blocks.  Create one in that spot and it should calm it.  Buckets won't be able to do that forever I think.  But it should work for now.
