  1. That is good to hear, however it doesn't address the problem that I can combine a stick and an 1100°C axehead. Is this mechanic planned to be tweaked as well?
  2. That just sounds like a pain i.t.a. though if you're not already living in the south, I guess you don't really need salt for anything, at least right now. I think if they introduce things like villages, vandering traders or stuff like that, it will be much easier to get these hard to find resources.
  3. I do like the option that using sword would have a chance to destroy some of the resources when killing an animal
  4. I can see why. I'm the kind of person who likes to make an authentic settlement, with a mansion, and small huts for leatherworking, metalworking, grinding, surrounded a wooden pallisade and strips of farmland
  5. Thanks for all the tips, I will address most advices and questions. I know that chalk and borax can be used as well, and I've been on a lookout for those too. I eventually did find a limesand beach and limestone in nearby caves. That also gave me the confidence to say that I never came across it before, since I inspected the whole map I have discovered and did not find any place with the same colour. Seashells are what I have been using before, but with the amount of lime you need for leatherworking and building, they are pretty useless. Regarding halite, I do know that it is only found in deserts, though I do not know how far south do you need to be, I believe I was at like 13k I eventually did buy halite stones from a trader. Also I found out that you can build a cellar, and you can seal crockpots with fat to preserve food, so I no longer have much need for salt. Thanks anyway guys.
  6. I was watching a video the other day about a project in France, where people try to build a medieval castle using only 13th century tools and technology. Fascinating video, but what got my attention, was the person working the wood saying that people in 13th would only use a saw when absolutely necessary, because they were really expensive. Instead what they would do is split logs to get boards. I think this could be a good way to get boards early in VS, when you need to make a bucket for example, while being slower and less efficient enough to make saw useful later on. My idea of how it would work is this: - combine a knife, hatchet and a log to create a wooden stake - place logs to be split horizontally - equip hatchet in main hand and stake in offhand - hold RMB to split the log, producing 1 or 2 boards. Here is a video of a dude splitting logs using nothing but a hatchet, wooden stakes and a rudimentary wooden hammer for reference. EDIT: I am aware that he is using a hammer, but I think we can skip that and use the blunt end of an axe, right?
  7. Since I've started to care for my sheeps, I've been in a constant need of dry grass, so it got me thinking how this is handled in real life. Then I realised that it seems pretty silly that you only get seeds and grains from harvesting rye etc. since those only make up about 5 - 10% of the plant. The rest is then dried and used to feed the livestock, and I believe that it should be the same in VS. My proposal is that you should get about 2-4 dry grass from harvesting any grains, that you can then use to feed your animals. Or better yet, get fresh hay, that you then need to dry for a few days to get dry hay, which can be used in place of dry grass, but being more nutritious for animals, for example only needing 16 units to fill a large trough. The drying could be really easy too, you just put 6 fresh hay together to make a haystack, then place it anywhere (probably under a roof so it doesn't get wet and mouldy) and after a few days, you got dry haystack.
  8. I've been thinking about things that would make the game immersive. One thing that came to mind, which should be easy to remedy but does make very little sense, is the fact that you can handle scorching hot pieces of metal with no trouble. I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about how metallurgy works, except for the fact that you quench to harden steel. However I think that if nothing else, there should a mechanic that prevents you from making an axe from a stick and 1100°C iron axehead. I was thinking about needing a pair of pliers to move a white hot ingot from forge to anvil, though that might be annoying and hard to get at the start. I do not know the best solution for this, but it is something that has been bothering me.
  9. I do agree that leatherworking probably is one area of the game that doesn't need to be more convoluted. However I do believe that after travelling the lands for 3 irl hours searching for limestone deposit, this would make little difference, especially since it requires no hard to get material, you can just create racks once and be done with it, and it would give life to your tanning shop, cause right now it just looks like a barrel warehouse.
  10. I've been playing the game for a bit now and enjoying the everyday tasks, though I wish some of them didn't skip over some steps. One of those is hanging your skins on a drying rack for some time. The process of making leather could look like this then: 1. Soak the skins in limewater 2. Scrape the skins with a knife 3. Dry the skins on a rack 4. Seal the skins in weak tannin 5. Dry the skins on a rack 6. Seal the skins in strong tannin EDIT: (Optional 7. Dry the finished leather before using it) The times needed for sealing could be reduced so the overall time to create leather would stay the same, or similiar. Ambient temperature could also affect how fast the skins dry. A drying rack could also be created from only sticks, or maybe sticks and dry grass.
  11. I've been flying straight in creative for 2 hours now and found no sign of either Lime biome or Halite. Am I doing something wrong or is the world creation just retarded?
  12. Hello, I was not able to locate the savegame files on Windows 10. My save got recently corrupted for no reason (I'm not using any mods), so I'd like to start making backups. Can somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks Edit: I noticed there's a create backup option in the game, so I guess that solves my problem.
