Yeah, I just saw this happen in Ashantin's video. Really surprised that natural fruit trees could die like that.

Pretty sure the pictures come from player postings, mostly in discord and possibly here too. I had a great spawn in one version where the waterfalls near spawn were multi-colored. There was a peninsula of tall cliffs with inlets, grottos, and picturesque waterfalls It was spectacular! I don't recall which version it was though (but posted a screenshot with the seed in discord). I've never seen waterfalls with those colors again.

I find the new worldgen to be way too bumpy and jagged 90% of the time. Seeing terrain like this makes me wonder if it's actually even supposed to look like that or if it's a bug.
It feels like there's too many "extreme" terrain features competing for attention, and as a result almost all terrain ends up being extreme. I prefer using the Plains and Valleys mod (or the Fields and Plateaus mod) since that gives more naturalistic worldgen.
Are you using default Survival settings, and in which version was your world created? I'm wondering why I am not getting these extreme terrains.

Wow, that looks nice! Great catch, @Thorfinn

I have an idea for another trader, not a trader as usual, more like a pub where you can play one, two, three minigames. Stake - rusty gears. A minigame fascinated me in Ashes of Erebus / Fall From Heaven. A mod game for Civ IV, it's a simple card game - similar to tarrot/solitaire. Maybe 2-3 more minigames.
if you break off the game, for example because of starvation or a temporal storm, you automatically lose your bet.
As with the quality of traders' housing, casinos could range from shabby and seedy till luxurious. That's a really good idea! I think this deserves a post of its own so that it gets more visibility.

Don't bears drop bushmeat? That kind of didn't sit well with me, considering that pigs are red meat and both are omnivores. I hope that you're correct and bears do drop red meat.
I like the idea of more varieties of cheese.

There is no way to collect rainwater.

BTW, Primitive Survival is one of the most popular mods out there.
That's funny, I was just thinking the same thing when I read "relatively small number of players." Not that it matters, as I also agree that development should not be constrained by potential conflicts with a mod...but, yeah, Primitive Survival is very popular.

What if I forget and cover up the block it was on? What if grass spreads onto the block? What if I dig up the block?
Ah. I see what you mean. I kinda liked the stumps too, and also like to leave the landscape as untouched as possible outside of my base. Even peat and clay get dug from underneath with the top layer untouched. I've not yet encountered a situation (in my own game) where I was digging around in a mushroom area so hadn't really thought about it much.

If that's true, that's a real bummer. =- (
Why is it a bummer? The mushroom spore remains and it will regrow; there is just no stump left. eta: mushrooms were reworked in 1.16.

Do you consider the release announcements to be spoilers? I do not want to give more information than you'd want to hear. It would not be a spoiler though to say that the maps may not be entirely accurate.

Keep looking. When it was first incorporated, something was said about the "X" being within a certain distance of the actual treasure. I don't know if that is still the case, but it does sound like a possibility since you only found a chest.
-
A lot of that is random though. Even saving the game before you break the pot, put a copy of that save in a different location and keep breaking the pot from that same original file will give you a random result.

EDIT: Wow, yeah, I'm getting really, *really* frustrated by the variance even in using the same seed...
What sort of variance did you see that caused you to write this? Normally I'm not seeing much variance in land formation at all, but I've not played around with it much since 1.18.2.

There is already waxed cheese in the game. Do you mean to add different types of waxed cheese? The only type right now is waxed cheddar.

I did find a really nice seed a year or two ago, but while I still have the save, I don't recall what version of the game generated it.
This won't be helpful now, since you want to start with a fresh new seed, but for future reference, you do have the ability to see which version the save was generated in:
Instead of selecting the save file to play it, click instead on the little icon to the right of the file name. There you will see which version it was generated in. Doing that will also allow you to copy the world gen settings and copy the seed, or start a new world with the same seed.
ETA: sometimes youtubers will share the seed of their Let's Plays. I suppose that is one way to preview a world.

Certainly the arena ruins are very common in my game(s). With this new release I've been creating new worlds and haven't travelled any great distance from spawn, but I always have several of those arena ruins and have not encountered any of the ones you are asking about. I'd like to see more variety.

I cannot tell from your wording, but you may have missed the part about needing a light level less than 2 and one unblocked hole. Hopefully someone will come along that is actually making blue-cheese. Best of luck!

Papa Cheddar did a video a while back on cheese making. Here is the link, starting at the point he is showing how to make blue cheese: Papa Cheddar on the making of Blue Cheese.
I doubt if anything has changed since this video was made, but don't know for sure.

Ashantin's LP, with worldgen in 1.18.0, has the large one with arches. Pretty sure I've seen one with cellars in someone else's LP but not certain.

Was this 1.18.4 or 1.18.5?
That was the berry bush problem (1.18.4); 1.18.5 is the fix for it. Info in the link (in the post you responded to).

I was pleasantly surprised by worldgen in 1.18.3. Several attempts using default (Survival) settings were very nice.

Can confirm no damage in 1.18.3; fixed in 1.18.4.

Fruit Tree Frustration
in Discussion
Posted
Not to mention that natural fruit trees only spawn at world gen, or new chunk gen, whatever. Having them die in a cold snap is a catastrophic loss. That this same mechanic is not affecting any other tree or plant defies logic.
