@TeaJay cool thanks - the thing is I haven't seen *a single fish* in this whole playthrough. And I've swam through lots of ponds and large lakes. I gave up on tryng to fish where I don't see any since I would wait minutes and nothing. But the fact that I haven't even seen a fish and I've looked so much sounds to me like there's something wrong. -

I'm also noticing little things are different but am not sure if it's by design? 1. The recipe grid now seems to be a lot more sensitive to having more "ingredients" than needed - for example to create a stone fence now i have to put exactly the right amount in multiples of the stone blocks, before one of the blocks could have an extra 1 or two and the fence could still be built... 2. The help dialog is not showing ALL the items that an "ingredient" can create - for some it does for others it does not - like if I look at cattails it does not show that I can create a reed chest - it only shows a torch and a hunter backpack. -

The fishing is just not working for me - I can't seem to find a single lake (and I've tried some pretty big ones) which have fish - haven't seen a fish nor have I been able to catch one. How long does it usually take with worm bait to sit and wait? Do you see a fish swimming towards the line if there's no fish in the lake? Honestly though - fish being so rare feels silly to me. -

So will adding fertilizer change the mechanic of having the different fertility type ground types? I assume in future you will just add fertilizer to increase a standard grounds stats? I tend to play this game in a very much lower-stress and lower-effort way so I turn a lot of the difficult settings down - please make the whole fertility mechanic configurable so that the few of us who don't really spend hundreds of hours in a game can also enjoy it -
@Forceous I totally agree - when I was a kid there wasn't this many games to try and enjoy - now the sky's the limit and I have the money to try them. But I acknowledge that there are people that like to stick to one game and play the heck out of it - but I don't think the divide is age - just a personality one. I try many, many games and play a lot at the same time. I also tend not to finish too many games - a game really has to be good to keep me interested to push through to the end.

I understand that combat is not the main focus of VS but currently it "feels" very naf. There doesn't seem to be any weight to the weapons, nor any recoil or impact feel from hitting. It of course would not fit to have the flashy cartoony style of Hytale, but I was more talking about feel. Even though combat is not the focus there is plenty of it in VS too though, and as it is currently it's not like it's realistic either. It's ok to show movement being horizontal or vertical (falx blade) but there isn't really a *swing* one way or the other - more like a tap. And the monster just keeps coming. Also the sound of hitting is ... a bell?

So now that Hytale is in Early Access and I'm sure some of us are playing and doing the obvious comparisons between the games, let's discuss some good ideas that could make Vintage Story better. To me the first thing that sticks out is the combat. I think Hytale has made the combat feel really nice by making it feel like there's actual force behinds the hits. I think Vintage Story needs to make it's combat better. It's the lowest hanging fruit if you ask me. It's probably a combination of sounds effects, particles/effects and als othe movement of the character and the monster which somehow make it 'feel' better. Playing Hytale has also made me appreciate the detail of the whole world and crafting that has been put in to VS. Wow it's so much more amazing to craft items in a more structured and involved way. Every item I have ever made in VS has meant something to me and I don't think Hytale will ever hit this level of satisfaction with it's crafting (although it is far better that Minecraft for sure) Other than that, I am liking the graphics style of Hytale. Vintage Story is more horror focused and it's more grounded colour palette looks and works great, The monsters in VS fit it's theme much better and look way more scarier which I love - but animations need work. Hytale has made the animations somehow smoother, and I think VS could do a bit better in that regard. So, anyone else playing and comparing? Also I do not want to bash either game so let's keep it positive - this is purely a way to learn what is good in both and highlight some features which might need a bit of work.

My items disappeared when I died in a storm. They dropped when I died, I went back (pretty close to home) and there was nothing there. Not sure this is new but it's an issue.

Just had this happen to me - v1.21.0 - died outside in a storm - came back to not a single item. Everything gone (I was not far, nor did I take long to come back)

I hope the main game team will also expand and use some new dev power to get more updates out sooner.

The way I see it every update should have a little of all 3 (of course new features could be small things)
