Simple Server Hosting (8+ slots)

The game is fun and hosting is fine, though dedicated servers seem to be down at the time of writing this. If you guys have a way to show up-time for the server incase it goes down that would be cool. otherwise I'm looking for information on updates regarding.

I personally really like this solution, and as others say - no mod support. There were a few other frustrations.

TL;DR is - as long as the buyer is NOT new to server hosting (you need to type a lil in the chat to get the server to let your friends in), who are just looking for a way to buff their connection and play with a few folks at a time - this seems like a cool option. I'm in North-North America and my buddy joined me from Tbilisi Georgia the other day - no lag, game was beautiful, we fed some wolves, it was great. With more players joining from more far reaching distances - it would be fun to see what happens -- but with the performance the other day that I saw - I'm optimistic!

So the other issues I have... From what I can tell the server is whitelisted. That's just how it comes, which - is COOL in a lot of ways and means that your game has some security by default but - it's not mentioned anywhere that I can read, and I feel kinda like it should be. After all 8 players is a club house full of people, maybe we want to add a description and keep the door open. We have a PVE and land claim system so - the whitelist seems a little restrictive and over safe imo.

Also - odd - but I guess that you can't include your own account name in the server name and list it publicly, from what I saw? I named my game "Big Shasta's Game" and tried over and over to set the server settings, allow on public, go and LOOK for it, and - - nothing. Off and on for 24 hours. Then I set it to anything else without "Big Shasta" in the title and boom, instantly there's my whitelisted server listed publicly and no one can join it.  Again like - WTF right??  I am a complete schiziod for even doing that in the first place - naming my game with my own account name, but - I dunno how ELSE is my BUDDY gonna find my game? ...

anyway, you guys should add a blurb about the whitelist, what it is, if it can be removed... since I just googled and it seems like there isn't a command that I can type in game to deactivate the whitelist - and as such - if anyone wants to join the server at all, I have to personally start the game, log into the server, and type videogame junk <playername> yes ... That's guaranteed to be kind of a curveball to someone with novice PC skills who just wants to play with their pal.

Otherwise, keep working on the game guys, there is still a ton of potential left to explore in VS and I really hope you guys have tons of support to finish this game. Cheers.

• Server not responding for minutes at a time
• Only hosted in EU

Conclusion

If you are playing with just a friend or 2, either setup port forwarding or use hamachi

been playing for a while, its great! 10/10

i do hope they add some things like seeing if and how many people are currently in the server and maybe some way to start and stop the server from a phone or website

told staff it doesn't specify server uptime and they clarified it here and changed it to 30 days for everyone W dub

So, I bought this product a few days ago and have been playing the game near non stop since the 26th. and I have noticed some pros, and cons about using Anego Studios official hosting. 

Pros-

• Simple, Ease of use. (Everything with the configuration is on the main menu screen)
• Available super fast within minutes of purchase. (It took me 10 minutes of setup and myself and others were able to play)
• Low amount of lag/server connectivity issues (I've experienced a few instances of lag and one time of connectivity issues)
• Great for wanting it to only be with a small group of friends. (Starting at 8 Pop, is perfect for my situation with wanting to play with a few friends)
• Price is cheap, cheap enough to buy once to try. ($11 USD, It's cheap enough to try once)
• Attentive, fast responses and community listeners (Time, and Time again do these developers show that they care about us through their actions. they implement changes all the time to help us)

Cons-

• No modding (HUGE negative for me, as I like to add a few QoL mods. I'm hopeful that they will add a roadmap like with base game so we can understand their side and priorities)
• Lack of Non-European servers. (Being in the U.S. I wish there was a server closer to myself so that the few lag and connectivity issues I have had can become a myth)

And that's it for me. Their hosting is great for a small group vanilla experience, cheap, reliable, and ran by a company with ears. I will state that I may be biased as I bought this service out of the choice to support their studio more, having also purchased 3 copies of the game for myself and others. That being said 4 stars is for no mods and servers but I'm hopeful for the mod support and for a roadmap to be coming soon, as their server hosting is being surpassed by others on this front along with servers being located in one area.

would rate 5star but currently still doesn't provide mod adding support for the server
so its great for continuing with friends when the main server goes down, but you are stuck playing pure vanilla VintageStory

like I said it is Great and Easy to get running and would recommend to anyone wanting simple and easy vanilla server for friends

It's awesome that you do provide server hosting.

It's a bit sad though that you got a mod maker, but not a mod folder for your servers you host yourselves.

I really do hope you begin focusing on  trying to provide us mod support, because a good game dev is more reliable than 3rd party server hosts.

It really doesn't get any simpler than this. If you enjoy the vanilla experience and have a handful of friends you want to play with, this is the hosting service for you. The hosting GUI is easy to work with, the latency is good, and if there's a problem? There's all the help you might need on the Vintage Story discord. I've been using the service to play with a friend for months now, and it's been reliable and lovely. Thank you, VS team

Pretty nice to have an official hosting service that is much more convenient than the alternatives.

Would like to see mod support and options for more slots in the future.

If you do end up getting this service PLEASE join the discord as whenever an outage or problem occurs on the host’s side they will update the community there. Overall good service, theres been a recent outage but they claimed they will return “at least 10x the lost server time” which is beyond good ethics even if it is below that high amount.

Appreciated how easy this was to use and then manage it from the game client.

I wish servers were provided in North America. Because this is only offered in Europe, I cant see myself renewing.

Once North America hosts are available I may come back to this.

Englisch: It´s a really good and creativ game, and has many specials that makes the game different to Minecraft. I really love that game sometimes it´s a little bit to hard for me from the difficulty, but you can make in the world settings it easier. The Server system is very good and better than other Hosting server sites, because you can easily choose what you like and how difficult it should be. Attention you must make the Settings before you start the server to load a world.  All in all a good game that makes really fun, especially with friends.

German: Es ist ein super gutes und Creatives Videospiel, es hat einige Besonderheiten gegenüber Minecraft, was es eindeutig davon unterscheidet. Ich liebe das spiel, aber manchmal ist es mir ein wenig zu schwer, aber durch die Welten Einstellungen kannst du es deutlich leichter machen. Das Server System hier zum kaufen ist sehr gut und besser als andere Server Hoster Seiten, weil du hier deinen Server direkt im Launcher starten und stoppen kannst so wie leicht die ganzen Einstellungen vornehmen kannst, wie schwer du deine Welt haben möchtest dies geht aber nur bevor man die Welt erstellt hat ganz wichtig. Im großen und ganzen ein gutes Spiel was viel spaß machen kann, besonders mit freunden.

I was allowed to test the server offer as part of a project. I was excited about how easy and uncomplicated it is to create a server. If you want to explore the world of Vintage Story with a handful of friends, you are in good hands with this offer. I can definitely recommend it.

Needs mod support for full functionality, but as it stands this is the easiest way to play with your friends. It's zero effort to get going and works right out of the box. 

Unfortunately, this server has not been working well for me. I really wanted to support Vintage Story devs directly and I appreciated how easy the set up of the server was! However, I have constant issues trying to connect to the server. I am located in North America, which I'm sure is causing connection issues for me, but it's to the point where the game is mostly unplayable due to lag or losing connection entirely. And that's if I can even connect to the server in the first place. At this time, I'm trying to connect to the server so that I can download the world & save and move to another server, but even that is not loading. 

I love the idea of dedicated servers from the devs of the game and I really hope they're able to create a better service in the future. If they do, I would love to continue supporting the devs in this way. But unfortunately for now, and maybe for others in NA, I would not recommend these servers.

works very easy basicly plug and play if you looking for something to play with your friends then buy copy paste host name and play took me arround 1minute from buying to playing  sadly mods dont work which is kinda stupid i beg the devs to add some way to add mods to the server.

Sadly the Servers have a loooot of issues and Fails. i have many timeout messages in the consol. i cant connect because the server "refuse my connection". the dashboard is way to simple to fix problems. and the support needs to long to react.

[Response from @MarkusVS]: Sorry for the downtime from July 26 to the evening of July 28. This was the first outage of that length we’ve ever had. A storage failure during a disk expansion caused it; and we had to restore from backups. We’re investing heavily to prevent a repeat. Support-wise, our goal is replies within 48 hours (often 24), though spikes can slow us. If you’re still affected, DM your server ID or ticket # and I’ll prioritize it.

No North America and no Mod support, otherwise would give 5 stars. Latency hasn't been an issue from the east coast of NA though. I'm still very impressed by in game server hosting. It's a really novel and new experience for a game that most dev teams and companies in this era of the games industry wouldn't touch with a thousand yard pole. I really appreciate the design philosophy and user-focused decisions that the vintage story team makes. Official mod support, a well supported official wiki, real forums, a custom competent website with its own web design, a custom client separate from big DRM services, and a wonderful game itself of course! I hope the industry at large and other indie devs can learn from this project.

you cannot go wrong here, I was hesitant for a while to get not only the game but a server and all I can say is 140 hours well spent you have wasted valuable time reading this go buy the game and get a server, play with friends! do it! DO IT NOW!

Very convenient and fairly priced imo, no problems encountered yet, but I wish it was possible to play with mods on these. If any dev reads this, do you have an ETA for that?

I don't see myself renewing this server host. 

It's very easy and simple to use. So much superior to other server hosting services.

Unfortunately, servers only exist in Europe. Just trying to play this game in North America with my friends is pretty unbearable. It's such an enjoyable game with a least enjoyable server host mechanic. Starting off and hunting is a next level challenge when playing on a server now. With the latency issues, the creature you are hunting will have teleported 20-50 blocks in front of you. I personally haven't even dared to touch the combat mechanics in a multiplayer server against the hostiles of this game. 

But dang, I sure do love this game and would really love to see a better option for server hosting in the future.

We are evaluating US locations, and want to offer something very soon, but don’t have an ETA yet. For what it’s worth, many US players—even on the West Coast—report smooth performance; routes vary a lot by ISP and region. If you choose not to renew, we’ll help you export your world so you can keep playing elsewhere. 

I like to support legitimate purchases and a game like this deserves it, that's why I bought the server, but it seems very stupid to me that the page has mods but the server doesn't allow mods, so I'm waiting for my money back.

Server hosting great and simple for noobies also the Staff is awsome and fast to respond if something wrong.
